1 Chronicles 9

NIRV 1 The whole community of Israel was listed in their family histories. They were written down in the records of the kings of Israel. The people of Judah were taken away from their own land. They were taken as prisoners to Babylonia. That's because they weren't faithful to the Lord. NIV 1 All Israel was listed in the genealogies recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. They were taken captive to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness. NIRV 2 The first ones who came back from there were some Israelites, priests, Levites and temple servants. They settled down again in their own towns on their own property. NIV 2 Now the first to resettle on their own property in their own towns were some Israelites, priests, Levites and temple servants. NIRV 3 Some of them lived in Jerusalem. They included people from Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim and Manasseh. NIV 3 Those from Judah, from Benjamin, and from Ephraim and Manasseh who lived in Jerusalem were: NIRV 4 They included Uthai. He was the son of Ammihud. Ammihud was the son of Omri. Omri was the son of Imri. Imri was the son of Bani. Bani belonged to the family line of Perez. Perez was the son of Judah. NIV 4 Uthai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a descendant of Perez son of Judah. NIRV 5 The family line of Shelah included his oldest son Asaiah. It also included the sons of Asaiah. NIV 5 Of the Shelanites : Asaiah the firstborn and his sons. NIRV 6 The family line of Zerah included Jeuel. The total number of the people of Judah was 690. NIV 6 Of the Zerahites: Jeuel. The people from Judah numbered 690. NIRV 7 The family line of Benjamin included Sallu. He was the son of Meshullam. Meshullam was the son of Hodaviah. Hodaviah was the son of Hassenuah. NIV 7 Of the Benjamites: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah; NIRV 8 Ibneiah was the son of Jeroham. Elah was the son of Uzzi. Uzzi was the son of Micri. Meshullam was the son of Shephatiah. Shephatiah was the son of Reuel. Reuel was the son of Ibnijah. NIV 8 Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, the son of Mikri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah. NIRV 9 The total number of the people of Benjamin was 956. They were listed in their family history. All of those men were the leaders of their families. NIV 9 The people from Benjamin, as listed in their genealogy, numbered 956. All these men were heads of their families. NIRV 10 The family line of the priests included Jedaiah, Jehoiarib and Jakin. NIV 10 Of the priests: Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jakin; NIRV 11 It also included Azariah. He was the son of Hilkiah. Hilkiah was the son of Meshullam. Meshullam was the son of Zadok. Zadok was the son of Meraioth. Meraioth was the son of Ahitub. Azariah was the official who was in charge of the house of God. NIV 11 Azariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the official in charge of the house of God; NIRV 12 Adaiah was the son of Jeroham. Jeroham was the son of Pashhur. Pashhur was the son of Malkijah. Maasai was the son of Adiel. Adiel was the son of Jahzerah. Jahzerah was the son of Meshullam. Meshullam was the son of Meshillemith. Meshillemith was the son of Immer. NIV 12 Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malkijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer. NIRV 13 The total number of priests was "1,760. They were the leaders of their families. They were able men. It was their duty to serve in the house of God. NIV 13 The priests, who were heads of families, numbered 1,760. They were able men, responsible for ministering in the house of God. NIRV 14 The family line of the Levites included Shemaiah. He was the son of Hasshub. Hasshub was the son of Azrikam. Azrikam was the son of Hashabiah. Shemaiah belonged to the family line of Merari. NIV 14 Of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, a Merarite; NIRV 15 The family line of the Levites also included Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah. Mattaniah was the son of Mica. Mica was the son of Zicri. Zicri was the son of Asaph. NIV 15 Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah son of Mika, the son of Zikri, the son of Asaph; NIRV 16 Obadiah was the son of Shemaiah. Shemaiah was the son of Galal. Galal was the son of Jeduthun. Berekiah was the son of Asa. Asa was the son of Elkanah. He lived in the villages of the people of Netophah. NIV 16 Obadiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berekiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites. NIRV 17 The men who guarded the gates were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and other Levites. Shallum was their chief. NIV 17 The gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their fellow Levites, Shallum their chief NIRV 18 He was stationed at the King's Gate on the east side of the temple. That duty has continued to this very day. Those guards belonged to the camp of the Levites. NIV 18 being stationed at the King’s Gate on the east, up to the present time. These were the gatekeepers belonging to the camp of the Levites. NIRV 19 Shallum was the son of Kore. Kore was the son of Ebiasaph. Ebiasaph was the son of Korah. Shallum and the other Levites in his family belonged to the family line of Korah. They had the duty of guarding the entrances to the temple. Their fathers had also had the duty of guarding the entrance to the house of the Lord. NIV 19 Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his fellow gatekeepers from his family (the Korahites) were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the tent just as their ancestors had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD. NIRV 20 Long ago Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, was in charge of those who guarded the gate. And the LORD was with him. NIV 20 In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar was the official in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him. NIRV 21 Zechariah guarded the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. He was the son of Meshelemiah. NIV 21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting. NIRV 22 The total number of the men who were chosen to guard the entrances was 212. They were listed in their family history in their villages. David and the prophet Samuel had appointed them to their positions. They appointed them because they trusted them. NIV 22 Altogether, those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. The gatekeepers had been assigned to their positions of trust by David and Samuel the seer. NIRV 23 Those Levites and their children after them were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the Lord. The house of the LORD was also called the temple. NIV 23 They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the LORD—the house called the tent of meeting. NIRV 24 The men who guarded the gates were on the four sides of the temple. They were on the east, west, north and south sides. NIV 24 The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north and south. NIRV 25 From time to time, their relatives in their villages had to come to the temple. They had to share their duties for a week at a time. NIV 25 Their fellow Levites in their villages had to come from time to time and share their duties for seven-day periods. NIRV 26 The four main men who guarded the gates were Levites. They were trusted with the duty of taking care of the storerooms and the other rooms in the house of God. NIV 26 But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God. NIRV 27 They spent the night in their positions around the house of God. That's because they had to guard it. They were in charge of the key that opened the temple each morning. NIV 27 They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning. NIRV 28 Some Levites were in charge of the articles that were used when they served at the temple. They counted the articles when they were brought in. They also counted them when they were taken out. NIV 28 Some of them were in charge of the articles used in the temple service; they counted them when they were brought in and when they were taken out. NIRV 29 Other Levites were appointed to take care of all of the other articles that belonged to the temple. They also took care of the flour, wine, olive oil, incense and spices. NIV 29 Others were assigned to take care of the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the special flour and wine, and the olive oil, incense and spices. NIRV 30 Some of the priests took care of mixing the spices. NIV 30 But some of the priests took care of mixing the spices. NIRV 31 There was a Levite named Mattithiah. He was the oldest son of Shallum. Shallum belonged to the family line of Korah. Mattithiah was trusted with the duty of baking the offering bread. NIV 31 A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the responsibility for baking the offering bread. NIRV 32 The bread was placed on the table every Sabbath day. Some Levites in the family line of Kohath were in charge of preparing the bread. NIV 32 Some of the Kohathites, their fellow Levites, were in charge of preparing for every Sabbath the bread set out on the table. NIRV 33 Those who led the music lived in rooms in the temple. They were the leaders of their Levite families. Their only duty was to lead the music. They had to do that work day and night. NIV 33 Those who were musicians, heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night. NIRV 34 All of them were the leaders of their Levite families. They were listed as chiefs in their family history. They lived in Jerusalem. NIV 34 All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs as listed in their genealogy, and they lived in Jerusalem. NIRV 35 Jeiel lived in the city of Gibeon. He was the father of Gibeon. Jeiel had a wife named Maacah. NIV 35 Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maakah, NIRV 36 His oldest son was Abdon. His other sons were Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, NIV 36 and his firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, NIRV 37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth. NIV 37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth. NIRV 38 Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. Mikloth and Shimeam lived in Jerusalem. They lived near their relatives. NIRV 41 The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea and Ahaz. NIV 41 The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melek, Tahrea and Ahaz. NIRV 42 Ahaz was the father of Jadah. Jadah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri. Zimri was the father of Moza. NIV 42 Ahaz was the father of Jadah, Jadah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza. NIRV 43 Moza was the father of Binea. Rephaiah was Binea's son. Eleasah was Rephaiah's son. And Azel was Eleasah's son. NIV 43 Moza was the father of Binea; Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son. NIRV 44 Azel had six sons. Their names were Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. They were the sons of Azel. NIV 44 Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
