1 Corinthians 13

RSV 1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. NIV 1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. RSV 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. NIV 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. RSV 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. NIV 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. RSV 4 Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; NIV 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. RSV 5 it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; NIV 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. RSV 6 it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. NIV 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. RSV 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. NIV 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. RSV 8 Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. NIV 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. RSV 9 For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; NIV 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, RSV 10 but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. NIV 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. RSV 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. NIV 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. RSV 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. NIV 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. RSV 13 So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. NIV 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
