NIV 2 he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.” WEB 3 Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in your heart; for Yahweh is with you. NIV 3 Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the LORD is with you.” WEB 4 It happened the same night, that the word of Yahweh came to Nathan, saying, NIV 4 But that night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying: WEB 5 Go and tell my servant David, Thus says Yahweh, Shall you build me a house for me to dwell in? NIV 5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD says: Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in? WEB 6 for I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tent. NIV 6 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling. WEB 7 In all places in which I have walked with all the children of Israel, spoke I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Israel, saying, Why have you not built me a house of cedar? NIV 7 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?” ’ WEB 8 Now therefore thus shall you tell my servant David, Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people, over Israel; NIV 8 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel. WEB 9 and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth. NIV 9 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth. WEB 10 I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first, NIV 10 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning WEB 11 and [as] from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover Yahweh tells you that Yahweh will make you a house. NIV 11 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. “ ‘The LORD declares to you that the LORD himself will establish a house for you: WEB 12 When your days are fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. NIV 12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. WEB 13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. NIV 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. WEB 14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men; NIV 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. WEB 15 but my lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you. NIV 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. WEB 16 Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure for ever before you: your throne shall be established forever. NIV 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me ; your throne will be established forever.’ ” WEB 17 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David. NIV 17 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation. WEB 18 Then David the king went in, and sat before Yahweh; and he said, Who am I, Lord Yahweh, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? NIV 18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? WEB 19 This was yet a small thing in your eyes, Lord Yahweh; but you have spoken also of your servant's house for a great while to come; and this [too] after the manner of men, Lord Yahweh! NIV 19 And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree, Sovereign LORD, is for a mere human! WEB 20 What can David say more to you? for you know your servant, Lord Yahweh. NIV 20 “What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, Sovereign LORD. WEB 21 For your word's sake, and according to your own heart, have you worked all this greatness, to make your servant know it. NIV 21 For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant. WEB 22 Therefore you are great, Yahweh God: for there is none like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. NIV 22 “How great you are, Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears. WEB 23 What one nation in the earth is like your people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and awesome things for your land, before your people, whom you redeem to you out of Egypt, [from] the nations and their gods? NIV 23 And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? WEB 24 You did establish to yourself your people Israel to be a people to you forever; and you, Yahweh, became their God. NIV 24 You have established your people Israel as your very own forever, and you, LORD, have become their God. WEB 25 Now, Yahweh God, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, confirm you it forever, and do as you have spoken. NIV 25 “And now, LORD God, keep forever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised, WEB 26 Let your name be magnified forever, saying, Yahweh of hosts is God over Israel; and the house of your servant David shall be established before you. NIV 26 so that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The LORD Almighty is God over Israel!’ And the house of your servant David will be established in your sight. WEB 27 For you, Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, have revealed to your servant, saying, I will build you a house: therefore has your servant found in his heart to pray this prayer to you. NIV 27 “LORD Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you.’ So your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. WEB 28 Now, O Lord Yahweh, you are God, and your words are truth, and you have promised this good thing to your servant: NIV 28 Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant. WEB 29 now therefore let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, Lord Yahweh, have spoken it: and with your blessing let the house of your servant be blessed forever. NIV 29 Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”
