2 Chronicles 7

HNV 1 Now when Shlomo had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house. NIV 1 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple. HNV 2 The Kohanim could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD filled the LORD's house. NIV 2 The priests could not enter the temple of the LORD because the glory of the LORD filled it. HNV 3 All the children of Yisra'el looked on, when the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD was on the house; and they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped, and gave thanks to the LORD, [saying], For he is good; for his lovingkindness endures for ever. NIV 3 When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD, saying, “He is good; his love endures forever.” HNV 4 Then the king and all the people offered sacrifice before the LORD. NIV 4 Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD. HNV 5 King Shlomo offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand oxen, and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God. NIV 5 And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand head of cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the people dedicated the temple of God. HNV 6 The Kohanim stood, according to their offices; the Levites also with instruments of music of the LORD, which David the king had made to give thanks to the LORD, (for his lovingkindness endures for ever,) when David praised by their ministry: and the Kohanim sounded trumpets before them; and all Yisra'el stood. NIV 6 The priests took their positions, as did the Levites with the LORD’s musical instruments, which King David had made for praising the LORD and which were used when he gave thanks, saying, “His love endures forever.” Opposite the Levites, the priests blew their trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing. HNV 7 Moreover Shlomo made the middle of the court holy that was before the house of the LORD; for there he offered the burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace-offerings, because the brazen altar which Shlomo had made was not able to receive the burnt offering, and the meal-offering, and the fat. NIV 7 Solomon consecrated the middle part of the courtyard in front of the temple of the LORD, and there he offered burnt offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings, because the bronze altar he had made could not hold the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the fat portions. HNV 8 So Shlomo held the feast at that time seven days, and all Yisra'el with him, a very great assembly, from the entrance of Hamat to the brook of Mitzrayim. NIV 8 So Solomon observed the festival at that time for seven days, and all Israel with him—a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt. HNV 9 On the eighth day they held a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days. NIV 9 On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had celebrated the dedication of the altar for seven days and the festival for seven days more. HNV 10 On the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their tents, joyful and glad of heart for the goodness that the LORD had shown to David, and to Shlomo, and to Yisra'el his people. NIV 10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the LORD had done for David and Solomon and for his people Israel. HNV 11 Thus Shlomo finished the house of the LORD, and the king's house: and all that came into Shlomo's heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected. NIV 11 When Solomon had finished the temple of the LORD and the royal palace, and had succeeded in carrying out all he had in mind to do in the temple of the LORD and in his own palace, HNV 12 The LORD appeared to Shlomo by night, and said to him, I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice. NIV 12 the LORD appeared to him at night and said: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices. HNV 13 If I shut up the sky so that there is no rain, or if I command the arbeh to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; NIV 13 “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, HNV 14 if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. NIV 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. HNV 15 Now my eyes shall be open, and my ears attentive, to the prayer that is made in this place. NIV 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. HNV 16 For now have I chosen and made this house holy, that my name may be there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually. NIV 16 I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there. HNV 17 As for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances; NIV 17 “As for you, if you walk before me faithfully as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees and laws, HNV 18 then I will establish the throne of your kingdom, according as I covenanted with David your father, saying, There shall not fail you a man to be ruler in Yisra'el. NIV 18 I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor to rule over Israel.’ HNV 19 But if you turn away, and forsake my statutes and my mitzvot which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; NIV 19 “But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, HNV 20 then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples. NIV 20 then I will uproot Israel from my land, which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. I will make it a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples. HNV 21 This house, which is so high, everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall say, Why has the LORD done thus to this land, and to this house? NIV 21 This temple will become a heap of rubble. All who pass by will be appalled and say, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’ HNV 22 They shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them forth out of the land of Mitzrayim, and laid hold on other gods, and worshiped them, and served them: therefore has he brought all this evil on them. NIV 22 People will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the LORD, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—that is why he brought all this disaster on them.’ ”
