Colossians 4

BBE 1 Masters, give your servants what is right and equal, conscious that you have a Master in heaven. NIV 1 Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven. BBE 2 Give yourselves to prayer at all times, keeping watch with praise; NIV 2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. BBE 3 And making prayer for us, that God may give us an open door for the preaching of the word, the secret of Christ, for which I am now in chains; NIV 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. BBE 4 So that I may make it clear, as it is right for me to do. NIV 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. BBE 5 Be wise in your behaviour to those who are outside, making good use of the time. NIV 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. BBE 6 Let your talk be with grace, mixed with salt, so that you may be able to give an answer to everyone. NIV 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. BBE 7 Tychicus will give you news of all my business: he is a dear brother and true servant and helper in the word; NIV 7 Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. BBE 8 And I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may have news of how we are, and so that he may give your hearts comfort; NIV 8 I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts. BBE 9 And with him I have sent Onesimus, the true and well-loved brother, who is one of you. They will give you word of everything which is taking place here. NIV 9 He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you. They will tell you everything that is happening here. BBE 10 Aristarchus, my brother-prisoner, sends his love to you, and Mark, a relation of Barnabas (about whom you have been given orders: if he comes to you, be kind to him), NIV 10 My fellow prisoner Aristarchus sends you his greetings, as does Mark, the cousin of Barnabas. (You have received instructions about him; if he comes to you, welcome him.) BBE 11 And Jesus, whose other name is Justus; these are of the circumcision: they are my only brother-workers for the kingdom of God, who have been a comfort to me. NIV 11 Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my co-workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me. BBE 12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, sends you his love, ever taking thought for you in his prayers, that you may be complete and fully certain of all the purpose of God. NIV 12 Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. BBE 13 For I give witness of him that he has undergone much trouble for you and for those in Laodicea and in Hierapolis. NIV 13 I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis. BBE 14 Luke, our well-loved medical friend, and Demas, send you their love. NIV 14 Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings. BBE 15 Give my love to the brothers in Laodicea and to Nymphas and the church in their house. NIV 15 Give my greetings to the brothers and sisters at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. BBE 16 And when this letter has been made public among you, let the same be done in the church of Laodicea; and see that you have the letter from Laodicea. NIV 16 After this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans and that you in turn read the letter from Laodicea. BBE 17 Say to Archippus, See that you do the work which the Lord has given you to do. NIV 17 Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.” BBE 18 I, Paul, give you this word of love in my handwriting. Keep in memory that I am a prisoner. Grace be with you. NIV 18 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.
