Ephesians 4

KJV 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, ESV 1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, KJV 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; ESV 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, KJV 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. ESV 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. KJV 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; ESV 4 There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call-- KJV 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, ESV 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, KJV 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. ESV 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. KJV 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. ESV 7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. KJV 8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. ESV 8 Therefore it says, "When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men." KJV 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? ESV 9 (In saying, "He ascended," what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? KJV 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) ESV 10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) KJV 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; ESV 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, KJV 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: ESV 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, KJV 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: ESV 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, KJV 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; ESV 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. KJV 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: ESV 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, KJV 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. ESV 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. KJV 17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, ESV 17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. KJV 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: ESV 18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. KJV 19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. ESV 19 They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. KJV 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; ESV 20 But that is not the way you learned Christ!-- KJV 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: ESV 21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, KJV 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; ESV 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, KJV 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; ESV 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, KJV 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. ESV 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. KJV 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. ESV 25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. KJV 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: ESV 26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, KJV 27 Neither give place to the devil. ESV 27 and give no opportunity to the devil. KJV 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. ESV 28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. KJV 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. ESV 29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. KJV 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. ESV 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. KJV 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: ESV 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. KJV 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. ESV 32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
