Hebrews 3

RSV 1 Therefore, holy brethren, who share in a heavenly call, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession. NIV 1 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. RSV 2 He was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in God's house. NIV 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. RSV 3 Yet Jesus has been counted worthy of as much more glory than Moses as the builder of a house has more honor than the house. NIV 3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. RSV 4 (For every house is built by some one, but the builder of all things is God.) NIV 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. RSV 5 Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, NIV 5 “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. RSV 6 but Christ was faithful over God's house as a son. And we are his house if we hold fast our confidence and pride in our hope. NIV 6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. RSV 7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Today, when you hear his voice, NIV 7 So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, RSV 8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, NIV 8 do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness, RSV 9 where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. NIV 9 where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did. RSV 10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, 'They always go astray in their hearts; they have not known my ways.' NIV 10 That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.’ RSV 11 As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall never enter my rest.'" NIV 11 So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ” RSV 12 Take care, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. NIV 12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. RSV 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. NIV 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. RSV 14 For we share in Christ, if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end, NIV 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. RSV 15 while it is said, "Today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion." NIV 15 As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” RSV 16 Who were they that heard and yet were rebellious? Was it not all those who left Egypt under the leadership of Moses? NIV 16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? RSV 17 And with whom was he provoked forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? NIV 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? RSV 18 And to whom did he swear that they should never enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? NIV 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? RSV 19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. NIV 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
