Hosea 9

HNV 1 Don't rejoice, Yisra'el, to jubilation like the nations; For you were unfaithful to your God. You love the wages of a prostitute at every grain threshing floor. NIV 1 Do not rejoice, Israel; do not be jubilant like the other nations. For you have been unfaithful to your God; you love the wages of a prostitute at every threshing floor. HNV 2 The threshing floor and the winepress won't feed them, And the new wine will fail her. NIV 2 Threshing floors and winepresses will not feed the people; the new wine will fail them. HNV 3 They won't dwell in the LORD's land; But Efrayim will return to Mitzrayim, And they will eat unclean food in Ashshur. NIV 3 They will not remain in the LORD’s land; Ephraim will return to Egypt and eat unclean food in Assyria. HNV 4 They won't pour out wine offerings to the LORD, Neither will they be pleasing to him. Their sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners; All who eat of it will be polluted; For their bread will be for their appetite. It will not come into the house of the LORD. NIV 4 They will not pour out wine offerings to the LORD, nor will their sacrifices please him. Such sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat them will be unclean. This food will be for themselves; it will not come into the temple of the LORD. HNV 5 What will you do in the day of solemn assembly, And in the day of the feast of the LORD? NIV 5 What will you do on the day of your appointed festivals, on the feast days of the LORD? HNV 6 For, behold, they have gone away from destruction. Mitzrayim will gather them up. Mof will bury them. Nettles will possess their pleasant things of silver. Thorns will be in their tents. NIV 6 Even if they escape from destruction, Egypt will gather them, and Memphis will bury them. Their treasures of silver will be taken over by briers, and thorns will overrun their tents. HNV 7 The days of visitation have come. The days of reckoning have come. Yisra'el will consider the prophet to be a fool, And the man who is inspired to be insane, Because of the abundance of your sins, And because your hostility is great. NIV 7 The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired person a maniac. HNV 8 A prophet watches over Efrayim with my God. A fowler's snare is on all of his paths, And hostility in the house of his God. NIV 8 The prophet, along with my God, is the watchman over Ephraim, yet snares await him on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God. HNV 9 They have deeply corrupted themselves, As in the days of Gevah. He will remember their iniquity. He will punish them for their sins. NIV 9 They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins. HNV 10 I found Yisra'el like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers as the first ripe in the fig tree at its first season; But they came to Ba`al-Pe`or, and consecrated themselves to the shameful thing, And became abominable like that which they loved. NIV 10 “When I found Israel, it was like finding grapes in the desert; when I saw your ancestors, it was like seeing the early fruit on the fig tree. But when they came to Baal Peor, they consecrated themselves to that shameful idol and became as vile as the thing they loved. HNV 11 As for Efrayim, their glory will fly away like a bird. There will be no birth, none with child, and no conception. NIV 11 Ephraim’s glory will fly away like a bird— no birth, no pregnancy, no conception. HNV 12 Though they bring up their children, Yet I will bereave them, so that not a man shall be left. Indeed, woe also to them when I depart from them! NIV 12 Even if they rear children, I will bereave them of every one. Woe to them when I turn away from them! HNV 13 Efrayim, like I have seen Tzor, is planted in a pleasant place; But Efrayim will bring out his children to the killer. NIV 13 I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place. But Ephraim will bring out their children to the slayer.” HNV 14 Give them -- LORD what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. NIV 14 Give them, LORD— what will you give them? Give them wombs that miscarry and breasts that are dry. HNV 15 "All their wickedness is in Gilgal; For there I hated them. Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of my house! I will love them no more. All their princes are rebels. NIV 15 “Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal, I hated them there. Because of their sinful deeds, I will drive them out of my house. I will no longer love them; all their leaders are rebellious. HNV 16 Efrayim is struck. Their root has dried up. They will bear no fruit. Even though they bring forth, yet I will kill the beloved ones of their womb." NIV 16 Ephraim is blighted, their root is withered, they yield no fruit. Even if they bear children, I will slay their cherished offspring.” HNV 17 My God will cast them away, because they did not listen to him; And they will be wanderers among the nations. NIV 17 My God will reject them because they have not obeyed him; they will be wanderers among the nations.
