Isaiah 3

CSB 1 Observe this: The Lord God of Hosts is about to remove from Jerusalem and from Judah every kind of security: the entire supply of bread and water, NIV 1 See now, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, is about to take from Jerusalem and Judah both supply and support: all supplies of food and all supplies of water, CSB 2 the hero and warrior, the judge and prophet, the fortune-teller and elder, NIV 2 the hero and the warrior, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder, CSB 3 the commander of 50 and the dignitary, the counselor, cunning magician, and necromancer. NIV 3 the captain of fifty and the man of rank, the counselor, skilled craftsman and clever enchanter. CSB 4 "I will make youths their leaders, and the unstable will govern them." NIV 4 “I will make mere youths their officials; children will rule over them.” CSB 5 The people will oppress one another, man against man, neighbor against neighbor; the youth will act arrogantly toward the elder, and the worthless toward the honorable. NIV 5 People will oppress each other— man against man, neighbor against neighbor. The young will rise up against the old, the nobody against the honored. CSB 6 A man will even seize his brother in his father's house, [saying:] "You have a cloak-you be our leader! This heap of rubble will be under your control." NIV 6 A man will seize one of his brothers in his father’s house, and say, “You have a cloak, you be our leader; take charge of this heap of ruins!” CSB 7 On that day he will cry out, saying: "I'm not a healer. I don't even have food or clothing in my house. Don't make me the leader of the people!" NIV 7 But in that day he will cry out, “I have no remedy. I have no food or clothing in my house; do not make me the leader of the people.” CSB 8 For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen because they have spoken and acted against the Lord, defying His glorious presence. NIV 8 Jerusalem staggers, Judah is falling; their words and deeds are against the LORD, defying his glorious presence. CSB 9 The look on their faces testifies against them, and like Sodom, they flaunt their sin. They do not conceal it. Woe to them! For they have brought evil on themselves. NIV 9 The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves. CSB 10 Tell the righteous that it will go well [for them], for they will eat the fruit of their deeds. NIV 10 Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds. CSB 11 Woe to the wicked-[it will go] badly [for them], for what they have done will be done to them. NIV 11 Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them! They will be paid back for what their hands have done. CSB 12 Youths oppress My people, and women rule over them. My people, your leaders mislead you; they confuse the direction of your paths. NIV 12 Youths oppress my people, women rule over them. My people, your guides lead you astray; they turn you from the path. CSB 13 The Lord rises to argue the case and stands to judge the people. NIV 13 The LORD takes his place in court; he rises to judge the people. CSB 14 The Lord brings [this] charge against the elders and leaders of His people: "You have devastated the vineyard. The plunder from the poor is in your houses. NIV 14 The LORD enters into judgment against the elders and leaders of his people: “It is you who have ruined my vineyard; the plunder from the poor is in your houses. CSB 15 Why do you crush My people and grind the faces of the poor?" says the Lord God of Hosts. NIV 15 What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the poor?” declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty. CSB 16 The Lord also says: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, walking with heads held high and seductive eyes, going along with prancing steps, jingling their ankle bracelets, NIV 16 The LORD says, “The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying hips, with ornaments jingling on their ankles. CSB 17 the Lord will put scabs on the heads of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will shave their foreheads bare. NIV 17 Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion; the LORD will make their scalps bald.” CSB 18 On that day the Lord will strip their finery: ankle bracelets, headbands, crescents, NIV 18 In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces, CSB 19 pendants, bracelets, veils, NIV 19 the earrings and bracelets and veils, CSB 20 headdresses, ankle jewelry, sashes, perfume bottles, amulets, NIV 20 the headdresses and anklets and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, CSB 21 signet rings, nose rings, NIV 21 the signet rings and nose rings, CSB 22 festive robes, capes, cloaks, purses, NIV 22 the fine robes and the capes and cloaks, the purses CSB 23 garments, linen clothes, turbans, and veils. NIV 23 and mirrors, and the linen garments and tiaras and shawls. CSB 24 Instead of perfume there will be a stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of beautifully styled hair, baldness; instead of fine clothes, sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding. NIV 24 Instead of fragrance there will be a stench; instead of a sash, a rope; instead of well-dressed hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing, sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding. CSB 25 Your men will fall by the sword, your warriors in battle. NIV 25 Your men will fall by the sword, your warriors in battle. CSB 26 Then her gates will lament and mourn; deserted, she will sit on the ground. NIV 26 The gates of Zion will lament and mourn; destitute, she will sit on the ground.
