John 9

NKJV 1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. NIV 1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. NKJV 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" NIV 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” NKJV 3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. NIV 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. NKJV 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. NIV 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. NKJV 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." NIV 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” NKJV 6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. NIV 6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. NKJV 7 And He said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. NIV 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. NKJV 8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, "Is not this he who sat and begged?" NIV 8 His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?” NKJV 9 Some said, "This is he." Others said, "He is like him." He said, "I am he." NIV 9 Some claimed that he was. Others said, “No, he only looks like him.” But he himself insisted, “I am the man.” NKJV 10 Therefore they said to him, "How were your eyes opened?" NIV 10 “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked. NKJV 11 He answered and said, "A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, 'Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed, and I received sight." NIV 11 He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.” NKJV 12 Then they said to him, "Where is He?" He said, "I do not know." NIV 12 “Where is this man?” they asked him. “I don’t know,” he said. NKJV 13 They brought him who formerly was blind to the Pharisees. NIV 13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. NKJV 14 Now it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes. NIV 14 Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. NKJV 15 Then the Pharisees also asked him again how he had received his sight. He said to them, "He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see." NIV 15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.” NKJV 16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, "This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them. NIV 16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So they were divided. NKJV 17 They said to the blind man again, "What do you say about Him because He opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet." NIV 17 Then they turned again to the blind man, “What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened.” The man replied, “He is a prophet.” NKJV 18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind and received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight. NIV 18 They still did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they sent for the man’s parents. NKJV 19 And they asked them, saying, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?" NIV 19 “Is this your son?” they asked. “Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?” NKJV 20 His parents answered them and said, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; NIV 20 “We know he is our son,” the parents answered, “and we know he was born blind. NKJV 21 but by what means he now sees we do not know, or who opened his eyes we do not know. He is of age; ask him. He will speak for himself." NIV 21 But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself.” NKJV 22 His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue. NIV 22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue. NKJV 23 Therefore his parents said, "He is of age; ask him." NIV 23 That was why his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.” NKJV 24 So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him, "Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner." NIV 24 A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. “Give glory to God by telling the truth,” they said. “We know this man is a sinner.” NKJV 25 He answered and said, "Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see." NIV 25 He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” NKJV 26 Then they said to him again, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?" NIV 26 Then they asked him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” NKJV 27 He answered them, "I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?" NIV 27 He answered, “I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?” NKJV 28 Then they reviled him and said, "You are His disciple, but we are Moses' disciples. NIV 28 Then they hurled insults at him and said, “You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses! NKJV 29 We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where He is from." NIV 29 We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from.” NKJV 30 The man answered and said to them, "Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes! NIV 30 The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. NKJV 31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. NIV 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will. NKJV 32 Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. NIV 32 Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. NKJV 33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing." NIV 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” NKJV 34 They answered and said to him, "You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?" And they cast him out. NIV 34 To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out. NKJV 35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?" NIV 35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” NKJV 36 He answered and said, "Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?" NIV 36 “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.” NKJV 37 And Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you." NIV 37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.” NKJV 38 Then he said, "Lord, I believe!" And he worshiped Him. NIV 38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. NKJV 39 And Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind." NIV 39 Jesus said,“For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.” NKJV 40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?" NIV 40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?” NKJV 41 Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains. NIV 41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.
