Jude 1

CEB 1 Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and brother of James. To those who are called, loved by God the Father and kept safe by Jesus Christ. NRS 1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, who are beloved in God the Father and kept safe for Jesus Christ: CEB 2 May you have more and more mercy, peace, and love. NRS 2 May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance. CEB 3 Dear friends, I wanted very much to write to you concerning the salvation we share. Instead, I must write to urge you to fight for the faith delivered once and for all to God's holy people. NRS 3 Beloved, while eagerly preparing to write to you about the salvation we share, I find it necessary to write and appeal to you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. CEB 4 Godless people have slipped in among you. They turn the grace of our God into unrestrained immorality and deny our only master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Judgment was passed against them a long time ago. NRS 4 For certain intruders have stolen in among you, people who long ago were designated for this condemnation as ungodly, who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. CEB 5 I want to remind you of something you already know very well. The Lord, who once saved a people out of Egypt, later destroyed those who didn't maintain their faith. NRS 5 Now I desire to remind you, though you are fully informed, that the Lord, who once for all saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. CEB 6 I remind you too of the angels who didn't keep their position of authority but deserted their own home. The Lord has kept them in eternal chains in the underworld until the judgment of the great day. NRS 6 And the angels who did not keep their own position, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains in deepest darkness for the judgment of the great day. CEB 7 In the same way, Sodom and Gomorrah and neighboring towns practiced immoral sexual relations and pursued other sexual urges. By undergoing the punishment of eternal fire, they serve as a warning. NRS 7 Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which, in the same manner as they, indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. CEB 8 Yet, even knowing this, these dreamers in the same way pollute themselves, reject authority, and slander the angels. NRS 8 Yet in the same way these dreamers also defile the flesh, reject authority, and slander the glorious ones. CEB 9 The archangel Michael, when he argued with the devil about Moses' body, did not dare charge him with slander. Instead, he said, "The Lord rebuke you!" NRS 9 But when the archangel Michael contended with the devil and disputed about the body of Moses, he did not dare to bring a condemnation of slander against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" CEB 10 But these people slander whatever they don't understand. They are destroyed by what they know instinctively, as though they were irrational animals. NRS 10 But these people slander whatever they do not understand, and they are destroyed by those things that, like irrational animals, they know by instinct. CEB 11 They are damned, for they follow in the footsteps of Cain. For profit they give themselves over to Balaam's error. They are destroyed in the uprising of Korah. NRS 11 Woe to them! For they go the way of Cain, and abandon themselves to Balaam's error for the sake of gain, and perish in Korah's rebellion. CEB 12 These people are like jagged rocks just below the surface of the water waiting to snag you when they join your love feasts. They feast with you without reverence. They care only for themselves. They are waterless clouds carried along by the winds; fruitless autumn trees, twice dead, uprooted; NRS 12 These are blemishes on your love-feasts, while they feast with you without fear, feeding themselves. They are waterless clouds carried along by the winds; autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, uprooted; CEB 13 wild waves of the sea foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom the darkness of the underworld is reserved forever. NRS 13 wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the deepest darkness has been reserved forever. CEB 14 Enoch, who lived seven generations after Adam, prophesied about these people when he said, "See, the Lord comes with his countless holy ones, NRS 14 It was also about these that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, "See, the Lord is coming with ten thousands of his holy ones, CEB 15 to execute judgment on everyone and to convict everyone about every ungodly deed they have committed in their ungodliness as well as all the harsh things that sinful ungodly people have said against him." NRS 15 to execute judgment on all, and to convict everyone of all the deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him." CEB 16 These are faultfinding grumblers, living according to their own desires. They speak arrogant words and they show partiality to people when they want a favor in return. NRS 16 These are grumblers and malcontents; they indulge their own lusts; they are bombastic in speech, flattering people to their own advantage. CEB 17 But you, dear friends, remember the words spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. NRS 17 But you, beloved, must remember the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; CEB 18 They said to you, "In the end time scoffers will come living according to their own ungodly desires." NRS 18 for they said to you, "In the last time there will be scoffers, indulging their own ungodly lusts." CEB 19 These people create divisions. Since they don't have the Spirit, they are worldly. NRS 19 It is these worldly people, devoid of the Spirit, who are causing divisions. CEB 20 But you, dear friends: build each other up on the foundation of your most holy faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, NRS 20 But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; CEB 21 keep each other in the love of God, wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will give you eternal life. NRS 21 keep yourselves in the love of God; look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. CEB 22 Have mercy on those who doubt. NRS 22 And have mercy on some who are wavering; CEB 23 Save some by snatching them from the fire. Fearing God, have mercy on some, hating even the clothing contaminated by their sinful urges. NRS 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; and have mercy on still others with fear, hating even the tunic defiled by their bodies. CEB 24 To the one who is able to protect you from falling, and to present you blameless and rejoicing before his glorious presence, NRS 24 Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing, CEB 25 to the only God our savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, belong glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time, now and forever. Amen. NRS 25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
