Judges 10

JUB 1 And after Abimelech there arose to save Israel, Tola, the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in Mount Ephraim. NIV 1 After the time of Abimelek, a man of Issachar named Tola son of Puah, the son of Dodo, rose to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim. JUB 2 And he judged Israel twenty-three years and died and was buried in Shamir. NIV 2 He led Israel twenty-three years; then he died, and was buried in Shamir. JUB 3 And after him arose Jair, a Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years. NIV 3 He was followed by Jair of Gilead, who led Israel twenty-two years. JUB 4 And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called the cities of Jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead. NIV 4 He had thirty sons, who rode thirty donkeys. They controlled thirty towns in Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth Jair. JUB 5 And Jair died and was buried in Camon. NIV 5 When Jair died, he was buried in Kamon. JUB 6 And the sons of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD and served the Baalim and Ashtaroth and the gods of Syria and the gods of Zidon and the gods of Moab and the gods of the sons of Ammon and the gods of the Philistines and forsook the LORD and did not serve him. NIV 6 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD. They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites and the gods of the Philistines. And because the Israelites forsook the LORD and no longer served him, JUB 7 And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines and into the hands of the sons of Ammon, NIV 7 he became angry with them. He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites, JUB 8 who dashed in pieces and crushed the sons of Israel for eighteen years, all the sons of Israel that were on the other side of the Jordan in the land of the Amorite, which is in Gilead. NIV 8 who that year shattered and crushed them. For eighteen years they oppressed all the Israelites on the east side of the Jordan in Gilead, the land of the Amorites. JUB 9 Moreover the sons of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim so that Israel was sore distressed. NIV 9 The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin and Ephraim; Israel was in great distress. JUB 10 And the sons of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee because we have forsaken our God and served the Baalim. NIV 10 Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, “We have sinned against you, forsaking our God and serving the Baals.” JUB 11 And the LORD replied unto the sons of Israel, Were you not oppressed by Egypt, by the Amorites, by the sons of Ammon, by the Philistines, NIV 11 The LORD replied, “When the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines, JUB 12 by those of Zidon, by Amalek, and by Maon, and ye cried to me and I delivered you out of their hands? NIV 12 the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands? JUB 13 Yet ye have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore, I will deliver you no more. NIV 13 But you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you. JUB 14 Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your affliction. NIV 14 Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!” JUB 15 And the sons of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned; do thou unto us whatever seems good unto thee; only deliver us now, we pray thee, this day. NIV 15 But the Israelites said to the LORD, “We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best, but please rescue us now.” JUB 16 And they put away the strange gods from among them and served the LORD; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel. NIV 16 Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the LORD. And he could bear Israel’s misery no longer. JUB 17 Then the sons of Ammon were gathered together and encamped in Gilead. And likewise the sons of Israel assembled themselves together and encamped in Mizpeh. NIV 17 When the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah. JUB 18 And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, Who shall it be that will begin the battle against the sons of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead. NIV 18 The leaders of the people of Gilead said to each other, “Whoever will take the lead in attacking the Ammonites will be head over all who live in Gilead.”
