Matthew 8

NKJV 1 When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. NIV 1 When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. NKJV 2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." NIV 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” NKJV 3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. NIV 3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. NKJV 4 And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." NIV 4 Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” NKJV 5 Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, NIV 5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. NKJV 6 saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented." NIV 6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.” NKJV 7 And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him." NIV 7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?” NKJV 8 The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. NIV 8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. NKJV 9 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." NIV 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” NKJV 10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! NIV 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. NKJV 11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. NIV 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. NKJV 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." NIV 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” NKJV 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that same hour. NIV 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment. NKJV 14 Now when Jesus had come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother lying sick with a fever. NIV 14 When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. NKJV 15 So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them. NIV 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. NKJV 16 When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, NIV 16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. NKJV 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses." NIV 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” NKJV 18 And when Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side. NIV 18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. NKJV 19 Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go." NIV 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” NKJV 20 And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." NIV 20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” NKJV 21 Then another of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father." NIV 21 Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” NKJV 22 But Jesus said to him, "Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead." NIV 22 But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” NKJV 23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. NIV 23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. NKJV 24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. NIV 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. NKJV 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!" NIV 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” NKJV 26 But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. NIV 26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. NKJV 27 So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" NIV 27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” NKJV 28 When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. NIV 28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. NKJV 29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?" NIV 29 “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” NKJV 30 Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. NIV 30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. NKJV 31 So the demons begged Him, saying, "If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine." NIV 31 The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.” NKJV 32 And He said to them, "Go." So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water. NIV 32 He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. NKJV 33 Then those who kept them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. NIV 33 Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. NKJV 34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their region. NIV 34 Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
