Nehemiah 11

ASV 1 And the princes of the people dwelt in Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts in the [other] cities. NIV 1 Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem. The rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten of them to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the remaining nine were to stay in their own towns. ASV 2 And the people blessed all the men that willingly offered themselves to dwell in Jerusalem. NIV 2 The people commended all who volunteered to live in Jerusalem. ASV 3 Now these are the chiefs of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem: but in the cities of Judah dwelt every one in his possession in their cities, [to wit], Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Nethinim, and the children of Solomon's servants. NIV 3 These are the provincial leaders who settled in Jerusalem (now some Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants and descendants of Solomon’s servants lived in the towns of Judah, each on their own property in the various towns, ASV 4 And in Jerusalem dwelt certain of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah: Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, of the children of Perez; NIV 4 while other people from both Judah and Benjamin lived in Jerusalem): From the descendants of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, a descendant of Perez; ASV 5 and Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Colhozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of the Shilonite. NIV 5 and Maaseiah son of Baruch, the son of Kol-Hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, a descendant of Shelah. ASV 6 All the sons of Perez that dwelt in Jerusalem were four hundred threescore and eight valiant men. NIV 6 The descendants of Perez who lived in Jerusalem totaled 468 men of standing. ASV 7 And these are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah. NIV 7 From the descendants of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah, ASV 8 And after him Gabbai, Sallai, nine hundred twenty and eight. NIV 8 and his followers, Gabbai and Sallai—928 men. ASV 9 And Joel the son of Zichri was their overseer; and Judah the son of Hassenuah was second over the city. NIV 9 Joel son of Zikri was their chief officer, and Judah son of Hassenuah was over the New Quarter of the city. ASV 10 Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin, NIV 10 From the priests: Jedaiah; the son of Joiarib; Jakin; ASV 11 Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God, NIV 11 Seraiah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the official in charge of the house of God, ASV 12 and their brethren that did the work of the house, eight hundred twenty and two; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, NIV 12 and their associates, who carried on work for the temple—822 men; Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malkijah, ASV 13 and his brethren, chiefs of fathers' [houses], two hundred forty and two; and Amashsai the son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer, NIV 13 and his associates, who were heads of families—242 men; Amashsai son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer, ASV 14 and their brethren, mighty men of valor, a hundred twenty and eight; and their overseer was Zabdiel, the son of Haggedolim. NIV 14 and his associates, who were men of standing—128. Their chief officer was Zabdiel son of Haggedolim. ASV 15 And of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; NIV 15 From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; ASV 16 and Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chiefs of the Levites, who had the oversight of the outward business of the house of God; NIV 16 Shabbethai and Jozabad, two of the heads of the Levites, who had charge of the outside work of the house of God; ASV 17 and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, who was the chief to begin the thanksgiving in prayer, and Bakbukiah, the second among his brethren; and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. NIV 17 Mattaniah son of Mika, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the director who led in thanksgiving and prayer; Bakbukiah, second among his associates; and Abda son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. ASV 18 All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred fourscore and four. NIV 18 The Levites in the holy city totaled 284. ASV 19 Moreover the porters, Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren, that kept watch at the gates, were a hundred seventy and two. NIV 19 The gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon and their associates, who kept watch at the gates—172 men. ASV 20 And the residue of Israel, of the priests, the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance. NIV 20 The rest of the Israelites, with the priests and Levites, were in all the towns of Judah, each on their ancestral property. ASV 21 But the Nethinim dwelt in Ophel: and Ziha and Gishpa were over the Nethinim. NIV 21 The temple servants lived on the hill of Ophel, and Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of them. ASV 22 The overseer also of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica, of the sons of Asaph, the singers, over the business of the house of God. NIV 22 The chief officer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mika. Uzzi was one of Asaph’s descendants, who were the musicians responsible for the service of the house of God. ASV 23 For there was a commandment from the king concerning them, and a settled provision for the singers, as every day required. NIV 23 The musicians were under the king’s orders, which regulated their daily activity. ASV 24 And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people. NIV 24 Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, one of the descendants of Zerah son of Judah, was the king’s agent in all affairs relating to the people. ASV 25 And as for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt in Kiriath-arba and the towns thereof, and in Dibon and the towns thereof, and in Jekabzeel and the villages thereof, NIV 25 As for the villages with their fields, some of the people of Judah lived in Kiriath Arba and its surrounding settlements, in Dibon and its settlements, in Jekabzeel and its villages, ASV 26 and in Jeshua, and in Moladah, and Beth-pelet, NIV 26 in Jeshua, in Moladah, in Beth Pelet, ASV 27 and in Hazar-shual, and in Beer-sheba and the towns thereof, NIV 27 in Hazar Shual, in Beersheba and its settlements, ASV 28 and in Ziklag, and in Meconah and in the towns thereof, NIV 28 in Ziklag, in Mekonah and its settlements, ASV 29 and in En-rimmon, and in Zorah, and in Jarmuth, NIV 29 in En Rimmon, in Zorah, in Jarmuth, ASV 30 Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages, Lachish and the fields thereof, Azekah and the towns thereof. So they encamped from Beer-sheba unto the valley of Hinnom. NIV 30 Zanoah, Adullam and their villages, in Lachish and its fields, and in Azekah and its settlements. So they were living all the way from Beersheba to the Valley of Hinnom. ASV 31 The children of Benjamin also [dwelt] from Geba [onward], at Michmash and Aija, and at Beth-el and the towns thereof, NIV 31 The descendants of the Benjamites from Geba lived in Mikmash, Aija, Bethel and its settlements, ASV 32 at Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, NIV 32 in Anathoth, Nob and Ananiah, ASV 33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, NIV 33 in Hazor, Ramah and Gittaim, ASV 34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, NIV 34 in Hadid, Zeboim and Neballat, ASV 35 Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. NIV 35 in Lod and Ono, and in Ge Harashim. ASV 36 And of the Levites, certain courses in Judah [were joined] to Benjamin. NIV 36 Some of the divisions of the Levites of Judah settled in Benjamin.
