Proverbs 3

NLT 1 My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. NIV 1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, NLT 2 If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. NIV 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. NLT 3 Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. NIV 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. NLT 4 Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. NIV 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. NLT 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. NIV 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; NLT 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. NIV 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. NLT 7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil. NIV 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. NLT 8 Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. NIV 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. NLT 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. NIV 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; NLT 10 Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine. NIV 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. NLT 11 My child, don’t reject the LORD ’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you. NIV 11 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, NLT 12 For the LORD corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights. NIV 12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. NLT 13 Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. NIV 13 Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, NLT 14 For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. NIV 14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. NLT 15 Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. NIV 15 She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. NLT 16 She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. NIV 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. NLT 17 She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. NIV 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. NLT 18 Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly. NIV 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed. NLT 19 By wisdom the LORD founded the earth; by understanding he created the heavens. NIV 19 By wisdom the LORD laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; NLT 20 By his knowledge the deep fountains of the earth burst forth, and the dew settles beneath the night sky. NIV 20 by his knowledge the watery depths were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. NLT 21 My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang on to them, NIV 21 My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; NLT 22 for they will refresh your soul. They are like jewels on a necklace. NIV 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. NLT 23 They keep you safe on your way, and your feet will not stumble. NIV 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. NLT 24 You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly. NIV 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. NLT 25 You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, NIV 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, NLT 26 for the LORD is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap. NIV 26 for the LORD will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared. NLT 27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them. NIV 27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. NLT 28 If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say, “Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.” NIV 28 Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”— when you already have it with you. NLT 29 Don’t plot harm against your neighbor, for those who live nearby trust you. NIV 29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you. NLT 30 Don’t pick a fight without reason, when no one has done you harm. NIV 30 Do not accuse anyone for no reason— when they have done you no harm. NLT 31 Don’t envy violent people or copy their ways. NIV 31 Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. NLT 32 Such wicked people are detestable to the LORD, but he offers his friendship to the godly. NIV 32 For the LORD detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence. NLT 33 The LORD curses the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright. NIV 33 The LORD’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. NLT 34 The LORD mocks the mockers but is gracious to the humble. NIV 34 He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed. NLT 35 The wise inherit honor, but fools are put to shame! NIV 35 The wise inherit honor, but fools get only shame.
