Psalm 50

NLT 1 The LORD, the Mighty One, is God, and he has spoken; he has summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets. NIV 1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets. NLT 2 From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines in glorious radiance. NIV 2 From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth. NLT 3 Our God approaches, and he is not silent. Fire devours everything in his way, and a great storm rages around him. NIV 3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages. NLT 4 He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people. NIV 4 He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people: NLT 5 “Bring my faithful people to me— those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.” NIV 5 “Gather to me this consecrated people, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.” NLT 6 Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. Interlude NIV 6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice. NLT 7 “O my people, listen as I speak. Here are my charges against you, O Israel: I am God, your God! NIV 7 “Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God. NLT 8 I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer. NIV 8 I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me. NLT 9 But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens. NIV 9 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, NLT 10 For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. NIV 10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. NLT 11 I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine. NIV 11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. NLT 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it. NIV 12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it. NLT 13 Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? NIV 13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? NLT 14 Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. NIV 14 “Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, NLT 15 Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” NIV 15 and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” NLT 16 But God says to the wicked: “Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant? NIV 16 But to the wicked person, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? NLT 17 For you refuse my discipline and treat my words like trash. NIV 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you. NLT 18 When you see thieves, you approve of them, and you spend your time with adulterers. NIV 18 When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers. NLT 19 Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies. NIV 19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit. NLT 20 You sit around and slander your brother— your own mother’s son. NIV 20 You sit and testify against your brother and slander your own mother’s son. NLT 21 While you did all this, I remained silent, and you thought I didn’t care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you. NIV 21 When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you. NLT 22 Repent, all of you who forget me, or I will tear you apart, and no one will help you. NIV 22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you: NLT 23 But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.” NIV 23 Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation.”
