Psalm 71

MSG 1 I run for dear life to God, I'll never live to regret it. NIV 1 In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. MSG 2 Do what you do so well: get me out of this mess and up on my feet. Put your ear to the ground and listen, give me space for salvation. NIV 2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. MSG 3 Be a guest room where I can retreat; you said your door was always open! You're my salvation - my vast, granite fortress. NIV 3 Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. MSG 4 My God, free me from the grip of Wicked, from the clutch of Bad and Bully. NIV 4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel. MSG 5 You keep me going when times are tough - my bedrock, God, since my childhood. NIV 5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. MSG 6 I've hung on you from the day of my birth, the day you took me from the cradle; I'll never run out of praise. NIV 6 From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you. MSG 7 Many gasp in alarm when they see me, but you take me in stride. NIV 7 I have become a sign to many; you are my strong refuge. MSG 8 Just as each day brims with your beauty, my mouth brims with praise. NIV 8 My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. MSG 9 But don't turn me out to pasture when I'm old or put me on the shelf when I can't pull my weight. NIV 9 Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone. MSG 10 My enemies are talking behind my back, watching for their chance to knife me. NIV 10 For my enemies speak against me; those who wait to kill me conspire together. MSG 11 The gossip is: "God has abandoned him. Pounce on him now; no one will help him." NIV 11 They say, “God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him.” MSG 12 God, don't just watch from the sidelines. Come on! Run to my side! NIV 12 Do not be far from me, my God; come quickly, God, to help me. MSG 13 My accusers - make them lose face. Those out to get me - make them look NIV 13 May my accusers perish in shame; may those who want to harm me be covered with scorn and disgrace. MSG 14 while I stretch out, reaching for you, and daily add praise to praise. NIV 14 As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. MSG 15 I'll write the book on your righteousness, talk up your salvation the livelong day, never run out of good things to write or say. NIV 15 My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long— though I know not how to relate them all. MSG 16 I come in the power of the Lord God, I post signs marking his right-of-way. NIV 16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign LORD; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone. MSG 17 You got me when I was an unformed youth, God, and taught me everything I know. Now I'm telling the world your wonders; NIV 17 Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. MSG 18 I'll keep at it until I'm old and gray. God, don't walk off and leave me until I get out the news Of your strong right arm to this world, news of your power to the world yet to come, NIV 18 Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come. MSG 19 Your famous and righteous ways, O God. God, you've done it all! Who is quite like you? NIV 19 Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens, you who have done great things. Who is like you, God? MSG 20 You, who made me stare trouble in the face, Turn me around; Now let me look life in the face. I've been to the bottom; NIV 20 Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. MSG 21 streaming with honors; turn to me, be tender to me, NIV 21 You will increase my honor and comfort me once more. MSG 22 And I'll take up the lute and thank you to the tune of your faithfulness, God. I'll make music for you on a harp, Holy One of Israel. NIV 22 I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel. MSG 23 When I open up in song to you, I let out lungsful of praise, my rescued life a song. NIV 23 My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I whom you have delivered. MSG 24 All day long I'm chanting about you and your righteous ways, While those who tried to do me in slink off looking ashamed. NIV 24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts all day long, for those who wanted to harm me have been put to shame and confusion.
