DBY 1 Woe to her that is rebellious and corrupted, to the oppressing city! NIV 1 Woe to the city of oppressors, rebellious and defiled! DBY 2 She hearkened not to the voice; she received not correction; she confided not in Jehovah; she drew not near her God. NIV 2 She obeys no one, she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the LORD, she does not draw near to her God. DBY 3 Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves, that leave nothing for the morning. NIV 3 Her officials within her are roaring lions; her rulers are evening wolves, who leave nothing for the morning. DBY 4 Her prophets are vain-glorious, treacherous persons; her priests profane the sanctuary, they do violence to the law. NIV 4 Her prophets are unprincipled; they are treacherous people. Her priests profane the sanctuary and do violence to the law. DBY 5 The righteous Jehovah is in the midst of her: he doeth no wrong. Every morning doth he bring his judgment to light; it faileth not: but the unrighteous knoweth no shame. NIV 5 The LORD within her is righteous; he does no wrong. Morning by morning he dispenses his justice, and every new day he does not fail, yet the unrighteous know no shame. DBY 6 I have cut off nations: their battlements are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant. NIV 6 “I have destroyed nations; their strongholds are demolished. I have left their streets deserted, with no one passing through. Their cities are laid waste; they are deserted and empty. DBY 7 I said, Only fear me, receive correction; so her dwelling shall not be cut off, howsoever I may punish her. But they rose early, they corrupted all their doings. NIV 7 Of Jerusalem I thought, ‘Surely you will fear me and accept correction!’ Then her place of refuge would not be destroyed, nor all my punishments come upon her. But they were still eager to act corruptly in all they did. DBY 8 Therefore wait ye for me, saith Jehovah, until the day that I rise up to the prey; for my determination is to assemble the nations, that I may gather the kingdoms together, to pour upon them mine indignation, -- all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. NIV 8 Therefore wait for me,” declares the LORD, “for the day I will stand up to testify.I have decided to assemble the nations, to gather the kingdoms and to pour out my wrath on them— all my fierce anger. The whole world will be consumed by the fire of my jealous anger. DBY 9 For then will I turn to the peoples a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Jehovah, to serve him with one consent. NIV 9 “Then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of the LORDand serve him shoulder to shoulder. DBY 10 From beyond the rivers of Cush my suppliants, the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine oblation. NIV 10 From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring me offerings. DBY 11 In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings wherein thou hast transgressed against me; for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that exult in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain. NIV 11 On that day you, Jerusalem, will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me, because I will remove from you your arrogant boasters. Never again will you be haughty on my holy hill. DBY 12 And I will leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of Jehovah. NIV 12 But I will leave within you the meek and humble. The remnant of Israel will trust in the name of the LORD. DBY 13 The remnant of Israel shall not work unrighteousness, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: but *they* shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid. NIV 13 They will do no wrong; they will tell no lies. A deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouths. They will eat and lie down and no one will make them afraid.” DBY 14 Exult, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; rejoice and be glad with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem: NIV 14 Sing, Daughter Zion; shout aloud, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, Daughter Jerusalem! DBY 15 Jehovah hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy; the King of Israel, Jehovah, is in the midst of thee; thou shalt not see evil any more. NIV 15 The LORD has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The LORD, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. DBY 16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear not; Zion, let not thy hands be slack. NIV 16 On that day they will say to Jerusalem, “Do not fear, Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. DBY 17 Jehovah thy God is in thy midst, a mighty one that will save: he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will exult over thee with singing. NIV 17 The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” DBY 18 I will gather them that sorrow for the solemn assemblies, who were of thee: the reproach of it was a burden [unto them]. NIV 18 “I will remove from you all who mourn over the loss of your appointed festivals, which is a burden and reproach for you. DBY 19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all them that afflict thee; and I will save her that halted, and gather her that was driven out; and I will make them a praise and a name in all the lands where they have been put to shame. NIV 19 At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you. I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they have suffered shame. DBY 20 At that time will I bring you, yea, at the time that I gather you; for I will make you a name and a praise, among all the peoples of the earth, when I shall turn again your captivity before your eyes, saith Jehovah. NIV 20 At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunesbefore your very eyes,” says the LORD..
