Ezekiel 4

TMB

GW

1 "Thou also, son of man, take thee a tile and lay it before thee, and portray upon it the city, even Jerusalem;
1 [The LORD said,] "Son of man, take clay, put it in front of you, and draw a map of Jerusalem on it.
2 and lay siege against it, and build a fort against it, and cast a mound against it. Set the camp also against it, and set battering rams against it round about.
2 Set up a blockade against it, build attack walls around it, put up dirt ramps around it, have troops ready to attack it, and place battering rams all around it.
3 Moreover take thou unto thee an iron plate, and set it for a wall of iron between thee and the city; and set thy face against it, and it shall be besieged, and thou shalt lay siege against it. This shall be a sign to the house of Israel.
3 Then take an iron pan, and set it up as a wall between you and the city. Turn your face toward the city as if you were going to attack it, and then attack it. This is a sign for the people of Israel.
4 "Also lie thou upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it: according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it, thou shalt bear their iniquity.
4 "Then lie on your left side and take the punishment of the nation of Israel yourself. You will bear its punishment as many days as you lie on that side.
5 For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days; so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
5 I have assigned to you one day for each year its punishment will last. So for 390 days, you will bear the punishment for the sins of the nation of Israel.
6 And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.
6 When you finish this, you will lie down again, this time on your right side. You will bear the punishment for the sins of the nation of Judah for 40 days, one day for each year I have assigned to you.
7 Therefore thou shalt set thy face toward the siege of Jerusalem; and thine arm shall be uncovered, and thou shalt prophesy against it.
7 Turn your face toward the blockaded Jerusalem. Shake your fist and prophesy against it.
8 And behold, I will lay bands upon thee, and thou shalt not turn thee from one side to another until thou hast ended the days of thy siege.
8 I will tie you up with ropes so that you will not be able to turn from one side to the other until you have finished attacking [Jerusalem].
9 "Take thou also unto thee wheat and barley and beans, and lentils and millet and fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make thee bread thereof according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side; three hundred and ninety days shalt thou eat thereof.
9 "Then take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and winter wheat. Put them in a container, and use them to make bread for yourself. Eat it during the 390 days that you are lying on your side.
10 And thy meat which thou shalt eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day. From time to time shalt thou eat it.
10 The food that you eat should be weighed. Eat eight ounces of food every day at set times.
11 Thou shalt drink also water by measure, a sixth part of a hin. From time to time shalt thou drink.
11 Measure out two-thirds of a quart of water, and drink it at set times.
12 And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with dung that cometh out of man in their sight."
12 Eat the bread as you would eat barley loaves. Bake the bread in front of people, using human excrement for fuel."
13 And the LORD said, "Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, whither I will drive them."
13 Then the LORD said, "In the same way, the people of Israel will eat unclean bread among the nations where I scatter them."
14 Then said I, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, my soul hath not been polluted; for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself or is torn in pieces; neither came there abominable flesh into my mouth."
14 I answered, "Almighty LORD, I have never dishonored myself. From the time I was young until now, I have never eaten an animal that died by itself or was killed by other wild animals. No unclean meat has ever entered my mouth."
15 Then He said unto me, "Lo, I have given thee cow's dung for man's dung, and thou shalt prepare thy bread therewith."
15 He said to me, "I will let you use cow manure in place of human excrement. Bake your bread over it."
16 Moreover He said unto me, "Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem; and they shall eat bread by weight and with care, and they shall drink water by measure and with astonishment,
16 He also said to me, "Son of man, I am going to cut off the bread supply in Jerusalem. People will anxiously eat rationed bread and fearfully drink rationed water.
17 that they may lack bread and water, and be stunned one with another, and be consumed away for their iniquity.
17 They will be shocked at the sight of each other because of the lack of food and water. They will waste away because of their sin."
