1 Pacto del Señor<br /> con Abram<br />Tiempo después, el Señor<br /> le habló a Abram en una visión y le dijo:<br />—No temas, Abram, porque yo te protegeré, y tu recompensa será grande.

After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield,your very great reward. ”
2 Abram le respondió:<br />—Oh Señor<br /> Soberano, ¿de qué sirven todas tus bendiciones si ni siquiera tengo un hijo? Ya que tú no me has dado hijos, Eliezer de Damasco, un siervo de los de mi casa, heredará toda mi riqueza.

But Abram said, “Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?”
3 Tú no me has dado descendientes propios, así que uno de mis siervos será mi heredero.

And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.”
4 Después el Señor<br /> le dijo:<br />—No, tu siervo no será tu heredero, porque tendrás un hijo propio, quien será tu heredero.

Then the word of the LORD came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.”
5 Entonces el Señor<br /> llevó a Abram afuera y le dijo:<br />—Mira al cielo y, si puedes, cuenta las estrellas. ¡Ese es el número de descendientes que tendrás!

He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”
6 Y Abram creyó al Señor<br />, y el Señor<br /> lo consideró justo debido a su fe.

Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
7 Entonces el Señor<br /> le dijo:<br />—Yo soy el Señor<br /> que te sacó de Ur de los caldeos para darte esta tierra como posesión.

He also said to him, “I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.”
8 Pero Abram respondió:<br />—Oh Señor<br /> Soberano, ¿cómo puedo estar seguro de que realmente voy a poseerla?

But Abram said, “Sovereign LORD, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”
9 Y el Señor<br /> le dijo:<br />—Tráeme una novilla de tres años, una cabra de tres años, un carnero de tres años, una tórtola y un pichón de paloma.

So the LORD said to him, “Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.”
10 Entonces Abram le presentó todos esos animales y los mató. Luego partió a cada animal por la mitad y puso las mitades una al lado de la otra; sin embargo, no partió a las aves por la mitad.

Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other; the birds, however, he did not cut in half.
11 Algunos buitres se lanzaron en picada para comerse a los animales muertos, pero Abram los espantó.

Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.
12 Al ponerse el sol, Abram se durmió profundamente, y descendió sobre él una oscuridad aterradora.

As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him.
13 Después el Señor<br /> dijo a Abram: «Ten por seguro que tus descendientes serán extranjeros en una tierra ajena, donde los oprimirán como esclavos durante cuatrocientos años;

Then the LORD said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there.
14 pero yo castigaré a la nación que los esclavice, y al final saldrán con muchas riquezas.

But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.
15 En cuanto a ti, morirás en paz y serás enterrado en buena vejez.

You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age.
16 Cuando hayan pasado cuatro generaciones, tus descendientes regresarán aquí, a esta tierra, porque los pecados de los amorreos no ameritan aún su destrucción».

In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.”
17 Después de que el sol se puso y cayó la oscuridad, Abram vio un horno humeante y una antorcha ardiente que pasaban entre las mitades de los animales muertos.

When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces.
18 Entonces el Señor<br /> hizo un pacto con Abram aquel día y dijo: «Yo he entregado esta tierra a tus descendientes, desde la frontera de Egipto<br /> hasta el gran río Éufrates,

On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates—
19 la tierra que ahora ocupan los ceneos, los cenezeos, los cadmoneos,

the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites,
20 los hititas, los ferezeos, los refaítas,

Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites,
21 los amorreos, los cananeos, los gergeseos y los jebuseos».

Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”
