Genesis 2

JUB 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. NIV 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. JUB 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. NIV 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. JUB 3 And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in it he had rested from all his work which God created in perfection. NIV 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. JUB 4 These are the origins of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens NIV 4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the LORD God made the earth and the heavens. JUB 5 and every plant of the field before it was in the earth and all the grass of the field before it grew, for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and neither was there a man to till the ground. NIV 5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, JUB 6 But there went up a mist from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground. NIV 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. JUB 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. NIV 7 Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. JUB 8 And the LORD God had planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed. NIV 8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. JUB 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is desirable to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. NIV 9 The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. JUB 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it was divided into four heads. NIV 10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. JUB 11 The name of the first is Pison; that is it which compasses the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; NIV 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. JUB 12 and the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone. NIV 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.) JUB 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon; this is the same that compasses the whole land of Ethiopia. NIV 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. JUB 14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel; this is that which goes toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. NIV 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. JUB 15 And the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. NIV 15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. JUB 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou may freely eat; NIV 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; JUB 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou dost eat of it thou shalt surely die. NIV 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” JUB 18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him. NIV 18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” JUB 19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living soul, that was its name. NIV 19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. JUB 20 And the man gave names to every beast, and to the fowl of the heavens, and to every animal of the field; but for the man there was not found a help meet for him. NIV 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. JUB 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and he took one of his sides and closed up the flesh in its place; NIV 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. JUB 22 and the LORD God built that which he had taken from the side of the man into a woman and brought her unto the man. NIV 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. JUB 23 And the man said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman because she was taken out of Man. NIV 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” JUB 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh. NIV 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. JUB 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. NIV 25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
