1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Enter thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

The LORD then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.
2 Of every clean animal thou shalt take to thee seven pairs, the male and his female; but of animals that <em>are</em> not clean, two, the male and his female.

Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate,
3 Of fowls also of the heavens by seven pairs, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.

and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth.
4 For yet <em>in</em> seven days, I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every substance that I have made I will destroy from off the face of the earth.

Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.”
5 And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him.

And Noah did all that the LORD commanded him.
6 And Noah <em>was</em> six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.

Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth.
7 And Noah went in and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him into the ark because of the waters of the flood.

And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean animals and of animals that <em>are</em> not clean and of fowls and of every thing that moves upon the earth,

Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground,
9 there went in two by two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.

male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.

And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of the heavens were opened.

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.
12 And there was rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.
13 In that same day Noah and Shem and Ham and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them entered into the ark,

On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.
14 they and every animal after its kind and all the beasts after their kind and every creeping thing that moves upon the earth after its kind and every fowl after its kind, every bird, every thing with wings.

They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings.
15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two by two of all flesh in which <em>is</em> the spirit of life.

Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark.
16 And those that went in went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him, and the LORD shut him in.

The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut him in.
17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth, and the waters multiplied and bore up the ark, and it was lifted up above the earth.

For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth.
18 And the waters prevailed and multiplied greatly upon the earth, and the ark went upon the face of the waters.

The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.
19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth, and all the high mountains that <em>were</em> under all the heavens were covered.

They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.
20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail, and the mountains were covered.

The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.
21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl and of beasts and of animals and of every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth and every man;

Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.
22 all in whose nostrils <em>was</em> the breath of the spirit of life of all that <em>was</em> in the dry <em>land</em> died.

Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.
23 And every substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man and cattle and the animals and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth, and only Noah remained <em>alive</em> and those that <em>were</em> with him in the ark.

Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.
24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.

The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.
