Isaiah 25

HNV

MSG

1 The LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name; for you have done wonderful things, [even] counsels of old, in faithfulness [and] truth.
1 God, you are my God. I celebrate you. I praise you. You've done your share of miracle-wonders, well-thought-out plans, solid and sure.
2 For you have made of a city a heap, of a fortified city a ruin, a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.
2 Here you've reduced the city to rubble, the strong city to a pile of stones. The enemy Big City is a non-city, never to be a city again.
3 Therefore shall a strong people glorify you; a city of awesome nations shall fear you.
3 Superpowers will see it and honor you, brutal oppressors bow in worshipful reverence.
4 For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat, when the blast of the awesome ones is as a storm against the wall.
4 They'll see that you take care of the poor, that you take care of poor people in trouble, Provide a warm, dry place in bad weather, provide a cool place when it's hot. Brutal oppressors are like a winter blizzard
5 As the heat in a dry place will you bring down the noise of strangers; as the heat by the shade of a cloud, the song of the awesome ones shall be brought low.
5 and vicious foreigners like high noon in the desert. But you, shelter from the storm and shade from the sun, shut the mouths of the big-mouthed bullies.
6 In this mountain will the LORD of Hosts make to all peoples a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.
6 But here on this mountain, God-of-the-Angel-Armies will throw a feast for all the people of the world, A feast of the finest foods, a feast with vintage wines, a feast of seven courses, a feast lavish with gourmet desserts.
7 He will destroy in this mountain the surface of the covering that covers all peoples, and the veil that is spread over all nations.
7 And here on this mountain, God will banish the pall of doom hanging over all peoples, The shadow of doom darkening all nations.
8 He has swallowed up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the reproach of his people will he take away from off all the eretz: for the LORD has spoken it.
8 Yes, he'll banish death forever. And God will wipe the tears from every face. He'll remove every sign of disgrace From his people, wherever they are. Yes! God says so!
9 It shall be said in that day, Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his yeshu`ah.
9 Also at that time, people will say, "Look at what's happened! This is our God! We waited for him and he showed up and saved us! This God, the one we waited for! Let's celebrate, sing the joys of his salvation.
10 For in this mountain will the hand of the LORD rest; and Mo'av shall be trodden down in his place, even as straw is trodden down in the water of the dung-hill.
10 God's hand rests on this mountain!" As for the Moabites, they'll be treated like refuse, waste shoveled into a cesspool.
11 He shall spread forth his hands in the midst of it, as he who swims spreads forth [his hands] to swim; but [the LORD] will lay low his pride together with the craft of his hands.
11 Thrash away as they will, like swimmers trying to stay afloat, They'll sink in the sewage. Their pride will pull them under.
12 The high fortress of your walls has he brought down, laid low, and brought to the ground, even to the dust.
12 Their famous fortifications will crumble to nothing, those mighty walls reduced to dust.
