Job 32

CSB 1 So these three men quit answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. NIV 1 So these three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. CSB 2 Then Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite from the family of Ram became angry. He was angry at Job because he had justified himself rather than God. NIV 2 But Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became very angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God. CSB 3 He was also angry at Job's three friends because they had failed to refute [him], and yet had condemned him. NIV 3 He was also angry with the three friends, because they had found no way to refute Job, and yet had condemned him. CSB 4 Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were [all] older than he. NIV 4 Now Elihu had waited before speaking to Job because they were older than he. CSB 5 But when he saw that the three men could not answer Job, he became angry. NIV 5 But when he saw that the three men had nothing more to say, his anger was aroused. CSB 6 So Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite replied: I am young in years, while you are old; therefore I was timid and afraid to tell you what I know. NIV 6 So Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite said: “I am young in years, and you are old; that is why I was fearful, not daring to tell you what I know. CSB 7 I thought that age should speak and maturity should teach wisdom. NIV 7 I thought, ‘Age should speak; advanced years should teach wisdom.’ CSB 8 But it is a spirit in man and the breath of the Almighty that give him understanding. NIV 8 But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding. CSB 9 It is not [only] the old who are wise or the elderly who understand how to judge. NIV 9 It is not only the old who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right. CSB 10 Therefore I say, "Listen to me. I too will declare what I know." NIV 10 “Therefore I say: Listen to me; I too will tell you what I know. CSB 11 Look, I waited for your conclusions; I listened to your insights as you sought for words. NIV 11 I waited while you spoke, I listened to your reasoning; while you were searching for words, CSB 12 I paid close attention to you. Yet no one proved Job wrong; not one of you refuted his arguments. NIV 12 I gave you my full attention. But not one of you has proved Job wrong; none of you has answered his arguments. CSB 13 So do not claim, "We have found wisdom; let God deal with him, not man." NIV 13 Do not say, ‘We have found wisdom; let God, not a man, refute him.’ CSB 14 But Job has not directed his argument to me, and I will not respond to him with your arguments. NIV 14 But Job has not marshaled his words against me, and I will not answer him with your arguments. CSB 15 Job's friends are dismayed and can no longer answer; words have left them. NIV 15 “They are dismayed and have no more to say; words have failed them. CSB 16 Should I continue to wait now that they are silent, now that they stand [there] and no longer answer? NIV 16 Must I wait, now that they are silent, now that they stand there with no reply? CSB 17 I too will answer; yes, I will tell what I know. NIV 17 I too will have my say; I too will tell what I know. CSB 18 For I am full of words, and my spirit compels me [to speak]. NIV 18 For I am full of words, and the spirit within me compels me; CSB 19 My heart is like unvented wine; it is about to burst like new wineskins. NIV 19 inside I am like bottled-up wine, like new wineskins ready to burst. CSB 20 I must speak so that I can find relief; I must open my lips and respond. NIV 20 I must speak and find relief; I must open my lips and reply. CSB 21 I will be partial to no one, and I will not give anyone an [undeserved] title. NIV 21 I will show no partiality, nor will I flatter anyone; CSB 22 For I do not know how to give [such] titles; otherwise, my Maker would remove me in an instant. NIV 22 for if I were skilled in flattery, my Maker would soon take me away.
