1 Then Baldad the Sauchite answered, and said,
1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:
2 How long wilt thou speak these things, the breath of thy mouth abundant in words?
2 "How long will you say these things, and the words of your mouth be a great wind?
3 Will the Lord be unjust when he judges; or will he that has made all things pervert justice?
3 Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert the right?
4 If thy sons have sinned before him, he has cast them away because of their transgression.
4 If your children sinned against him, he delivered them into the power of their transgression.
5 But be thou early in prayer to the Lord Almighty.
5 If you will seek God and make supplication to the Almighty,
6 If thou art pure and true, he will hearken to thy supplication, and will restore to thee the habitation of righteousness.
6 if you are pure and upright, surely then he will rouse himself for you and restore to you your rightful place.
7 Though then thy beginning should be small, yet thy end should be unspeakably great.
7 Though your beginning was small, your latter days will be very great.
8 For ask of the former generation, and search diligently among the race of fathers:
8 "For inquire now of bygone generations, and consider what their ancestors have found;
9 (for we are of yesterday, and know nothing; for our life upon the earth is a shadow:)
9 for we are but of yesterday, and we know nothing, for our days on earth are but a shadow.
10 shall not these teach thee, and report , and bring out words from heart?
10 Will they not teach you and tell you and utter words out of their understanding?
11 Does the rush flourish without water, or shall the flag grow up without moisture?
11 "Can papyrus grow where there is no marsh? Can reeds flourish where there is no water?
12 When it is yet on the root, and it has not been cut down, does not any herb wither before it has received moisture?
12 While yet in flower and not cut down, they wither before any other plant.
13 Thus then shall be the end of all that forget the Lord: for the hope of the ungodly shall perish.
13 Such are the paths of all who forget God; the hope of the godless shall perish.
14 For his house shall be without inhabitants, and his tent shall prove a spider's web.
14 Their confidence is gossamer, a spider's house their trust.
15 If he should prop up his house, it shall not stand: and when he has taken hold of it, it shall not remain.
15 If one leans against its house, it will not stand; if one lays hold of it, it will not endure.
16 For it is moist under the sun, and his branch shall come forth out of his dung-heap.
16 The wicked thrive before the sun, and their shoots spread over the garden.
17 He lies down upon a gathering of stones, and shall live in the mist of flints.
17 Their roots twine around the stoneheap; they live among the rocks.
18 If should destroy , his place shall deny him. Hast thou not seen such things,
18 If they are destroyed from their place, then it will deny them, saying, "I have never seen you.'
19 that such is the overthrow of the ungodly? and out of the earth another shall grow.
19 See, these are their happy ways, and out of the earth still others will spring.
20 For the Lord will by no means reject the harmless man; but he will not receive any gift of the ungodly.
20 "See, God will not reject a blameless person, nor take the hand of evildoers.
21 But he will fill with laughter the mouth of the sincere, and their lips with thanksgiving.
21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouts of joy.
22 But their adversaries shall clothe themselves with shame; and the habitation of the ungodly shall perish.
22 Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked will be no more."
