1 Tercer discurso de Job: respuesta a Bildad<br />Entonces Job habló de nuevo:

2 «Sí, yo sé que en teoría todo esto es verdad.<br />Pero ¿cómo puede una persona ser declarada inocente a los ojos de Dios?

3 Si alguien quisiera llevar a Dios a juicio,<br />¿sería posible responderle siquiera una vez entre mil?

4 Dios es tan sabio y tan poderoso.<br />¿Quién lo ha desafiado alguna vez con éxito?

5 »Él mueve las montañas sin dar aviso,<br />en su enojo las voltea.

6 Él sacude la tierra de su lugar<br />y tiemblan sus cimientos.

7 Si él lo ordena, el sol no saldrá<br />ni brillarán las estrellas.

8 Él solo extendió los cielos<br />y marcha sobre las olas del mar.

9 Él hizo todas las estrellas: la Osa y el Orión,<br />las Pléyades y las constelaciones del cielo del sur.

10 Él hace grandezas, demasiado maravillosas para comprenderlas,<br />y realiza milagros incontables.

11 »Sin embargo, cuando él se acerca no puedo verlo;<br />cuando se mueve, no lo veo pasar.

12 Si arrebata la vida de alguien, ¿quién podrá detenerlo?<br />¿Quién se atreve a preguntarle: “¿Qué haces?”?

13 Dios no contiene su enojo;<br />aun los monstruos del mar<br /> son aplastados bajo sus pies.

14 »Así que, ¿quién soy yo para intentar responder a Dios<br />o incluso razonar con él?

15 Aunque yo tuviera razón, no tendría ninguna defensa;<br />sólo podría rogar misericordia.

16 Y aunque lo llamara y él me respondiera,<br />dudo que me preste atención.

17 Pues él me ataca con una tormenta<br />y vez tras vez me hiere sin motivo.

18 No me deja recobrar el aliento<br />sino que me llena de amargas tristezas.

19 Si es cuestión de fuerza, él es el fuerte,<br />y si de justicia, ¿quién se atreverá a llevarlo al tribunal?

20 Aunque soy inocente, mi boca me declararía culpable,<br />aunque soy intachable, la misma boca<br /> demostraría que soy malvado.

21 »Soy inocente,<br />pero para mí no marca ninguna diferencia;<br />desprecio mi vida.

22 Inocente o perverso, para Dios es lo mismo,<br />por eso digo: “Él destruye tanto al intachable como al perverso”.

23 Cuando azota la plaga,<br />él se ríe de la muerte del inocente.

24 Toda la tierra está en manos de los malvados,<br />y Dios ciega los ojos de los jueces.<br />Si no es él quien lo hace, ¿entonces quién?

25 »Mi vida pasa más rápido que un corredor<br />y se va volando sin una pizca de felicidad;

26 desaparece como un barco veloz hecho de papiro,<br />como un águila que se lanza en picada sobre su presa.

27 Si decidiera olvidar mis quejas,<br />abandonar mi cara triste y alegrarme,

28 aun así le tendría pavor a todo el dolor<br />porque, oh Dios, sé que no me encontrarías inocente.

29 Pase lo que pase, seré declarado culpable;<br />entonces, ¿para qué seguir luchando?

30 Incluso aunque me lavara con jabón<br />y limpiara mis manos con lejía,

31 me hundirías en un pozo lleno de lodo,<br />y mis propias ropas sucias me odiarían.

32 »Dios no es un mortal como yo,<br />por eso no puedo discutir con él ni llevarlo a juicio.

33 Si tan solo hubiera un mediador entre nosotros,<br />alguien que pudiera acercarnos el uno al otro.

34 Ese mediador podría hacer que Dios dejara de golpearme,<br />y ya no viviría aterrorizado de su castigo.

35 Entonces podría hablar con él sin temor,<br />pero no puedo lograrlo con mis propias fuerzas.

1 Then Job replied:

2 “Indeed, I know that this is true. But how can mere mortals prove their innocence before God?

3 Though they wished to dispute with him, they could not answer him one time out of a thousand.

4 His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him and come out unscathed?

5 He moves mountains without their knowing it and overturns them in his anger.

6 He shakes the earth from its place and makes its pillars tremble.

7 He speaks to the sun and it does not shine; he seals off the light of the stars.

8 He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea.

9 He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.

10 He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.

11 When he passes me, I cannot see him; when he goes by, I cannot perceive him.

12 If he snatches away, who can stop him? Who can say to him, ‘What are you doing?’

13 God does not restrain his anger; even the cohorts of Rahab cowered at his feet.

14 “How then can I dispute with him? How can I find words to argue with him?

15 Though I were innocent, I could not answer him; I could only plead with my Judge for mercy.

16 Even if I summoned him and he responded, I do not believe he would give me a hearing.

17 He would crush me with a storm and multiply my wounds for no reason.

18 He would not let me catch my breath but would overwhelm me with misery.

19 If it is a matter of strength, he is mighty! And if it is a matter of justice, who can challenge him ?

20 Even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me; if I were blameless, it would pronounce me guilty.

21 “Although I am blameless, I have no concern for myself; I despise my own life.

22 It is all the same; that is why I say, ‘He destroys both the blameless and the wicked.’

23 When a scourge brings sudden death, he mocks the despair of the innocent.

24 When a land falls into the hands of the wicked, he blindfolds its judges. If it is not he, then who is it?

25 “My days are swifter than a runner; they fly away without a glimpse of joy.

26 They skim past like boats of papyrus, like eagles swooping down on their prey.

27 If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will change my expression, and smile,’

28 I still dread all my sufferings, for I know you will not hold me innocent.

29 Since I am already found guilty, why should I struggle in vain?

30 Even if I washed myself with soap and my hands with cleansing powder,

31 you would plunge me into a slime pit so that even my clothes would detest me.

32 “He is not a mere mortal like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court.

33 If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together,

34 someone to remove God’s rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more.

35 Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot.
