1 but the next day, while it was still very early, they took the spices they had prepared, went to the tomb,
1 But on the first day of the week, at dawn, they came to the place where his body had been put, taking the spices which they had got ready.
2 and found the stone rolled away from the tomb!
2 And they saw that the stone had been rolled away.
3 On entering, they discovered that the body of the Lord Yeshua was gone! They were
3 And they went in, but the body of the Lord Jesus was not there.
4 standing there, not knowing what to think about it, when suddenly two men in daz zlingly bright clothing stood next to them.
4 And while they were in doubt about it, they saw two men in shining clothing by them:
5 Terror-stricken, they bowed down with their faces to the ground. The two men said to them, "Why are you looking for the living among the dead?
5 And while their faces were bent down to the earth in fear, these said to them, Why are you looking for the living among the dead?
6 He is not here; he has been raised. Remember how he told you while he was still in the Galil,
6 He is not here, he has come back to life: have in mind what he said to you when he was still in Galilee, saying,
7 `The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be executed on a stake as a criminal, but on the third day be raised again'?"
7 The Son of man will be given up into the hands of evil-doers, and be put to death on the cross, and on the third day he will come back to life.
8 Then they remembered his words;
8 And his words came back into their minds,
9 and, returning from the tomb, they told everything to the Eleven and to all the rest.
9 And they went away from that place and gave an account of all these things to the eleven disciples and all the others.
10 The women who told the emissaries these things were Miryam of Magdala, Yochanah, Miryam the mother of Ya`akov, and the others in their circle.
10 Now they were Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary, the mother of James: and the other women with them said these things to the Apostles.
11 But the emissaries didn't believe them; in fact, they thought that what they said was utter nonsense!
11 But these words seemed foolish to them, and they had no belief in them.
12 However, Kefa got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping down, he saw only the burial cloths and went home wondering what had happened.
12 But Peter got up and went to the place where the body had been put, and looking in he saw nothing but the linen cloths, and he went to his house full of wonder at what had taken place.
13 That same day, two of them were going toward a village about seven miles from Yerushalayim called Amma'us,
13 And then, two of them, on that very day, were going to a little town named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.
14 and they were talking with each other about all the things that had happened.
14 And they were talking together about all those things which had taken place.
15 As they talked and discussed, Yeshua himself came up and walked along with them,
15 And while they were talking and questioning together, Jesus himself came near and went with them.
16 but something kept them from recognizing him.
16 But their eyes were not open that they might have knowledge of him.
17 He asked them, "What are you talking about with each other as you walk along?" They stopped short, their faces downcast;
17 And he said to them, What are you talking about together while you go?
18 and one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, "Are you the only person staying in Yerushalayim that doesn't know the things that have been going on there the last few days?"
18 Then stopping, and looking sadly at him, one of them, named Cleopas, said to him, Are you the only man living in Jerusalem who has not had news of the things which have taken place there at this time?
19 "What things?" he asked them. They said to him, "The things about Yeshua from Natzeret. He was a prophet and proved it by the things he did and said before God and all the people.
19 And he said to them, What things? And they said, The things to do with Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, great in his acts and his words, before God and all the people:
20 Our head cohanim and our leaders handed him over, so that he could be sentenced to death and executed on a stake as a criminal.
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers gave him up to be put to death on the cross.
21 And we had hoped that he would be the one to liberate Isra'el! Besides all that, today is the third day since these things happened;
21 But we were hoping that he would be the Saviour of Israel. In addition to all this he has now let three days go by from the time when these things took place;
22 and this morning, some of the women astounded us. They were at the tomb early
22 And certain women among us gave us cause for wonder, for they went early to the place where his body had been put,
23 and couldn't find his body, so they came back; but they also reported that they had seen a vision of angels who say he's alive!
23 And it was not there; then they came saying that they had seen a vision of angels who said that he was living.
24 Some of our friends went to the tomb and found it exactly as the women had said, but they didn't see him."
24 And some of those who were with us went to the place, and saw that it was as the women had said, but him they did not see.
25 He said to them, "Foolish people! So unwilling to put your trust in everything the prophets spoke!
25 And he said, O foolish men! how slow you are to give belief to what the prophets have said.
26 Didn't the Messiah have to die like this before entering his glory?"
26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to go through these things, and to come into his glory?
27 Then, starting with Moshe and all the prophets, he explained to them the things that can be found throughout the Tanakh concerning himself.
27 And he made clear to them all the things in the Writings, from Moses and from all the prophets, which had to do with himself.
28 They approached the village where they were going. He made as if he were going on farther;
28 And they came near the town to which they were going, and he seemed as if he was going on;
29 but they held him back, saying, "Stay with us, for it's almost evening, and it's getting dark." So he went in to stay with them.
29 But they kept him back, saying, Do not go, for evening is near, the day is almost gone. And he went in with them.
30 As he was reclining with them at the table, he took the matzah, made the b'rakhah, broke it and handed it to them.
30 And when he was seated with them at table, he took the bread, and said words of blessing and, making division of it, he gave it to them.
31 Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. But he became invisible to them.
31 And then their eyes were open, and they had knowledge of him, but he went from their view.
32 They said to each other, "Didn't our hearts burn inside us as he spoke to us on the road, opening up the Tanakh to us?"
32 And they said to one another, Were not our hearts burning in us while he was talking to us on the way, making clear to us the holy Writings?
33 They got up at once, returned to Yerushalayim and found the Eleven gathered together with their friends,
33 And that very hour they got up and went back to Jerusalem, where the eleven and the others had come together.
34 saying, "It's true! The Lord has risen! Shim`on saw him!"
34 And they said to them, The Lord has truly come back to life again, and Simon has seen him.
35 Then the two told what had happened on the road and how he had become known to them in the breaking of the matzah.
35 And they gave an account of the things which had taken place on the way, and how, when he gave them bread, they had knowledge of him.
36 They were still talking about it when -- there he was, standing among them!
36 And while they were saying these things, he himself was among them, and said to them, Peace be with you!
37 Startled and terrified, they thought they were seeing a ghost.
37 But they were full of fear, being of the opinion that they were seeing a spirit.
38 But he said to them, "Why are you so upset? Why are these doubts welling up inside you?
38 And he said to them, Why are you troubled, and why are your hearts full of doubt?
39 Look at my hands and my feet -- it is I, myself! Touch me and see -- a ghost doesn't have flesh and bones, as you can see I do."
39 See; my hands and my feet: it is I myself; put your hands on me and make certain; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.
40 As he said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
40 And when he had said this, he let them see his hands and his feet.
41 While they were still unable to believe it for joy and stood there dumb founded, he said to them, "Have you something here to eat?"
41 And because, for joy and wonder, they were still in doubt, he said to them, Have you any food here?
42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish,
42 And they gave him a bit of cooked fish.
43 which he took and ate in their presence.
43 And before their eyes he took a meal.
44 Yeshua said to them, "This is what I meant when I was still with you and told you that everything written about me in the Torah of Moshe, the Prophets and the Psalms had to be fulfilled."
44 And he said to them, These are the words which I said to you when I was still with you, how it was necessary for all the things which are in the writings of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms about me, to be put into effect.
45 Then he opened their minds, so that they could understand the Tanakh,
45 Then he made the holy Writings clear to their minds.
46 telling them, "Here is what it says: the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day;
46 And he said to them, So it is in the Writings that the Christ would undergo death, and come back to life again on the third day;
47 and in his name repentance leading to forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed to people from all nations, starting with Yerushalayim.
47 And that teaching about a change of heart and forgiveness of sins is to be given to Jerusalem first and to all nations in his name.
48 You are witnesses of these things.
48 You are witnesses of these things.
49 Now I am sending forth upon you what my Father promised, so stay here in the city until you have been equipped with power from above."
49 And now I will send to you what my father has undertaken to give you, but do not go from the town, till the power from heaven comes to you.
50 He led them out toward Beit-Anyah; then, raising his hands, he said a b'rakhah over them;
50 And he took them out till they were near Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he gave them a blessing.
51 and as he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven.
51 And while he was doing so, he went from them and was taken up into heaven.
52 They bowed in worship to him, then returned to Yerushalayim, overflowing with joy.
52 And they gave him worship and went back to Jerusalem with great joy.
53 And they spent all their time in the Temple courts, praising God.
53 And they were in the Temple at all times, giving praise to God.
