Hebrew Names Version HNV
The Message Bible MSG
1 Yeshua went out from the temple, and was going on his way. His talmidim came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.
1
Jesus then left the Temple. As he walked away, his disciples pointed out how very impressive the Temple architecture was.
2 But he answered them, "Don't you see all of these things? Most assuredly I tell you, there will not be left here one stone on another, that will not be thrown down."
2
Jesus said, "You're not impressed by all this sheer size, are you? The truth of the matter is that there's not a stone in that building that is not going to end up in a pile of rubble."
3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the talmidim came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be? What is the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world?"
3
Later as he was sitting on Mount Olives, his disciples approached and asked him, "Tell us, when are these things going to happen? What will be the sign of your coming, that the time's up?"
4 Yeshua answered them, "Be careful that no one leads you astray.
4
Jesus said, "Watch out for doomsday deceivers.
5 For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Messiah,' and will lead many astray.
5
Many leaders are going to show up with forged identities, claiming, 'I am Christ, the Messiah.' They will deceive a lot of people.
6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren't troubled, for all this must happen, but the end is not yet.
6
When reports come in of wars and rumored wars, keep your head and don't panic. This is routine history; this is no sign of the end.
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various places.
7
Nation will fight nation and ruler fight ruler, over and over. Famines and earthquakes will occur in various places.
8 But all these things are the beginning of birth pains.
8
This is nothing compared to what is coming.
9 Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name's sake.
9
"They are going to throw you to the wolves and kill you, everyone hating you because you carry my name.
10 Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.
10
And then, going from bad to worse, it will be dog-eat-dog, everyone at each other's throat, everyone hating each other.
11 Many false prophets will arise, and will lead many astray.
11
"In the confusion, lying preachers will come forward and deceive a lot of people.
12 Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold.
12
For many others, the overwhelming spread of evil will do them in - nothing left of their love but a mound of ashes.
13 But he who endures to the end, the same will be saved.
13
"Staying with it - that's what God requires. Stay with it to the end. You won't be sorry, and you'll be saved.
14 This Good News of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world for a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
14
All during this time, the good news - the Message of the kingdom - will be preached all over the world, a witness staked out in every country. And then the end will come.
15 When, therefore, you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniyel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),
15
"But be ready to run for it when you see the monster of desecration set up in the Temple sanctuary. The prophet Daniel described this. If you've read Daniel, you'll know what I'm talking about.
16 then let those who are in Yehudah flee to the mountains.
16
If you're living in Judea at the time, run for the hills;
17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take out things that are in his house.
17
if you're working in the yard, don't return to the house to get anything;
18 Let him who is in the field not return back to take his cloak.
18
if you're out in the field, don't go back and get your coat.
19 But woe to those who are with child and to nursing mothers in those days!
19
Pregnant and nursing mothers will have it especially hard.
20 Pray that your flight will not be in the winter, nor on a Shabbat,
20
Hope and pray this won't happen during the winter or on a Sabbath.
21 for then will be great oppression, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever will be.
21
"This is going to be trouble on a scale beyond what the world has ever seen, or will see again.
22 Unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved. But for the elect's sake, those days will be shortened.
22
If these days of trouble were left to run their course, nobody would make it. But on account of God's chosen people, the trouble will be cut short.
23 "Then if any man tells you, 'Behold, here is the Messiah,' or, 'There,' don't believe it.
23
"If anyone tries to flag you down, calling out, 'Here's the Messiah!' or points, 'There he is!' don't fall for it.
24 For there will arise false Messiahs, and false prophets, and they will show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
24
Fake Messiahs and lying preachers are going to pop up everywhere. Their impressive credentials and dazzling performances will pull the wool over the eyes of even those who ought to know better.
25 "Behold, I have told you beforehand.
25
But I've given you fair warning.
26 If therefore they tell you, 'Behold, he is in the wilderness!' don't go out; 'Behold, he is in the inner chambers,' don't believe it.
26
"So if they say, 'Run to the country and see him arrive!' or, 'Quick, get downtown, see him come!' don't give them the time of day.
27 For as the lightning comes forth from the east, and is seen even to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
27
The Arrival of the Son of Man isn't something you go to see. He comes like swift lightning to you!
28 For wherever the carcass is, there will the vultures be gathered together.
28
Whenever you see crowds gathering, think of carrion vultures circling, moving in, hovering over a rotting carcass. You can be quite sure that it's not the living Son of Man pulling in those crowds.
29 But immediately after the oppression of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give her light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken;
29
"Following those hard times, Sun will fade out, moon cloud over, Stars fall out of the sky, cosmic powers tremble.
30 and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky. Then all the tribes of the eretz will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.
30
"Then, the Arrival of the Son of Man! It will fill the skies - no one will miss it. Unready people all over the world, outsiders to the splendor and power, will raise a huge lament as they watch the Son of Man blazing out of heaven.
31 He will send forth his angels with a great sound of a shofar, and they will gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
31
At that same moment, he'll dispatch his angels with a trumpet-blast summons, pulling in God's chosen from the four winds, from pole to pole.
32 "Now from the fig tree learn her parable. When its branch has now become tender, and puts forth its leaves, you know that the summer is near.
32
"Take a lesson from the fig tree. From the moment you notice its buds form, the merest hint of green, you know summer's just around the corner.
33 Even so you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
33
So it is with you: When you see all these things, you'll know he's at the door.
34 Most assuredly I tell you, this generation will not pass away, until all these things are accomplished.
34
Don't take this lightly. I'm not just saying this for some future generation, but for all of you. This age continues until all these things take place.
35 Heaven and eretz will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
35
Sky and earth will wear out; my words won't wear out.
36 But no one knows of that day and hour, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
36
"But the exact day and hour? No one knows that, not even heaven's angels, not even the Son. Only the Father knows.
37 "As the days of Noach, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
37
"The Arrival of the Son of Man will take place in times like Noah's.
38 For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noach entered into the teivah,
38
Before the great flood everyone was carrying on as usual, having a good time right up to the day Noah boarded the ark.
39 and they didn't know until the flood came, and took them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
39
They knew nothing - until the flood hit and swept everything away.
40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one will be left;
40
Two men will be working in the field - one will be taken, one left behind;
41 two women grinding at the mill, one will be taken and one will be left.
41
two women will be grinding at the mill - one will be taken, one left behind.
42 Watch therefore, for you don't know in what hour your Lord comes.
42
So stay awake, alert. You have no idea what day your Master will show up.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.
43
But you do know this: You know that if the homeowner had known what time of night the burglar would arrive, he would have been there with his dogs to prevent the break-in.
44 Therefore also be ready, for in an hour that you don't expect, the Son of Man will come.
44
Be vigilant just like that. You have no idea when the Son of Man is going to show up.
45 "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has set over his household, to give them their food in due season?
45
"Who here qualifies for the job of overseeing the kitchen? A person the Master can depend on to feed the workers on time each day.
46 Blessed is that servant whom his lord will find doing so when he comes.
46
Someone the Master can drop in on unannounced and always find him doing his job. A God-blessed man or woman, I tell you.
47 Most assuredly I tell you that he will set him over all that he has.
47
It won't be long before the Master will put this person in charge of the whole operation.
48 But if that evil servant should say in his heart, 'My lord is delaying his coming,'
48
"But if that person only looks out for himself, and the minute the Master is away does what he pleases -
49 and began to beat his fellow-servants, and eat and drink with the drunken,
49
abusing the help and throwing drunken parties for his friends -
50 the lord of that servant will come in a day when he doesn't expect it, and in an hour when he doesn't know it,
50
the Master is going to show up when he least expects it
51 and will cut him in pieces, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.
51
and make hash of him. He'll end up in the dump with the hypocrites, out in the cold shivering, teeth chattering.
