1 Dem Vorsänger. Ein Maskil von David, als Doeg, der Edomiter, kam und Saul berichtete und ihm sagte: David ist in das Haus Abimelechs gekommen. Was rühmst du dich des Bösen, du Gewaltiger? Die Güte Gottes währt den ganzen Tag.

Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
2 Verderben sinnt deine Zunge, wie ein geschliffenes Schermesser Trug übend.

You who practice deceit, your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor.
3 Du hast das Böse mehr geliebt, als das Gute, die Lüge mehr, als Gerechtigkeit zu reden. (Sela.)

You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth.
4 Du hast alle Vertilgungsworte geliebt, du Zunge des Trugs!

You love every harmful word, you deceitful tongue!
5 Gott wird dich auch zerstören für immerdar; er wird dich fassen und herausreißen aus dem Zelte und auswurzeln aus dem Lande der Lebendigen. (Sela.)

Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living.
6 Und sehen werden es die Gerechten und sich fürchten, und sie werden über ihn lachen:

The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at you, saying,
7 "Sieh den Mann, der Gott nicht zu seiner Stärke machte, sondern auf die Größe seines Reichtums vertraute, durch sein Schadentun stark war!"

“Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!”
8 Ich aber bin wie ein grüner Olivenbaum im Hause Gottes; ich vertraue auf die Güte Gottes immer und ewiglich.

But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.
9 Ich werde dich preisen ewiglich, weil du es getan hast; und auf deinen Namen werde ich harren, denn er ist gut, vor deinen Frommen.

For what you have done I will always praise you in the presence of your faithful people. And I will hope in your name, for your name is good.
