Psalm 72

NIRV 1 God, give the king the ability to judge fairly. He is your royal son. Help him to do what is right. NIV 1 Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness. NIRV 2 Then he will rule your people in the right way. He will be fair to those among your people who are hurting. NIV 2 May he judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice. NIRV 3 The mountains and the hills will produce rich crops, because the people will do what is right. NIV 3 May the mountains bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness. NIRV 4 The king will stand up for those who are hurting. He will save the children of those who are in need. He will crush those who beat others down. NIV 4 May he defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; may he crush the oppressor. NIRV 5 He will rule as long as the sun shines and the moon gives its light. He will rule for all time to come. NIV 5 May he endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. NIRV 6 He will be like rain falling on the fields. He will be like showers watering the earth. NIV 6 May he be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth. NIRV 7 Godly people will do well as long as he rules. They will have more than they need as long as the moon lasts. NIV 7 In his days may the righteous flourish and prosperity abound till the moon is no more. NIRV 8 He will rule from ocean to ocean. His kingdom will reach from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth. NIV 8 May he rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. NIRV 9 The desert tribes will bow down to him. His enemies will lick the dust. NIV 9 May the desert tribes bow before him and his enemies lick the dust. NIRV 10 The kings of Tarshish and of places far away will bring him gifts. The kings of Sheba and Seba will give him presents. NIV 10 May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores bring tribute to him. May the kings of Sheba and Seba present him gifts. NIRV 11 All kings will bow down to him. All nations will serve him. NIV 11 May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him. NIRV 12 People who are in need will cry out, and he will save them. He will save those who are hurting. They don't have anyone else who can help them. NIV 12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. NIRV 13 He will take pity on those who are weak and in need. He will save them from death. NIV 13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. NIRV 14 He will save them from people who beat others down. He will save them from people who do mean things to them. Their lives are very special to him. NIV 14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight. NIRV 15 May he live a long time! May gold from Sheba be given to him. May people always pray for him. May they ask the LORD to bless him all day long. NIV 15 Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long. NIRV 16 Let there be plenty of grain everywhere in the land. May it sway in the wind on the tops of the hills. Let crops grow well, like those in Lebanon. Let them grow like the grass of the field. NIV 16 May grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. May the crops flourish like Lebanon and thrive like the grass of the field. NIRV 17 May the king's name be remembered forever. May his fame last as long as the sun shines. All nations will be blessed because of him. They will call him blessed. NIV 17 May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. Then all nations will be blessed through him,and they will call him blessed. NIRV 18 Give praise to the LORD God, the God of Israel. Only he can do wonderful things. NIV 18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. NIRV 19 Give praise to his glorious name forever. May his glory fill the whole earth. Amen and Amen. NIV 19 Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory.
