Psalm 81

RHE 1 (80-1) <Unto the end, for the winepresses, a psalm for Asaph himself.> (80-2) Rejoice to God our helper: sing aloud to the God of Jacob. NIV 1 Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob! RHE 2 (80-3) Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel: the pleasant psaltery with the harp. NIV 2 Begin the music, strike the timbrel, play the melodious harp and lyre. RHE 3 (80-4) Blow up the trumpet on the new moon, on the noted day of your solemnity. NIV 3 Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival; RHE 4 (80-5) For it is a commandment in Israel, and a judgment to the God of Jacob. NIV 4 this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob. RHE 5 (80-6) He ordained it for a testimony in Joseph, when he came out of the land of Egypt: he heard a tongue which he knew not. NIV 5 When God went out against Egypt, he established it as a statute for Joseph. I heard an unknown voice say: RHE 6 (80-7) He removed his back from the burdens: his hands had served in baskets. NIV 6 “I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket. RHE 7 (80-8) Thou calledst upon me in affliction, and I delivered thee: I heard thee in the secret place of tempest: I proved thee at the waters of contradiction. NIV 7 In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. RHE 8 (80-9) Hear, O my people, and I will testify to thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken to me, NIV 8 Hear me, my people, and I will warn you— if you would only listen to me, Israel! RHE 9 (80-10) there shall be no new god in thee: neither shalt thou adore a strange god. NIV 9 You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not worship any god other than me. RHE 10 (80-11) For I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. NIV 10 I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it. RHE 11 (80-12) But my people heard not my voice: and Israel hearkened not to me. NIV 11 “But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. RHE 12 (80-13) So I let them go according to the desires of their heart: they shall walk in their own inventions. NIV 12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. RHE 13 (80-14) If my people had heard me: if Israel had walked in my ways: NIV 13 “If my people would only listen to me, if Israel would only follow my ways, RHE 14 (80-15) I should soon have humbled their enemies, and laid my hand on them that troubled them. NIV 14 how quickly I would subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes! RHE 15 (80-16) The enemies of the Lord have lied to him: and their time shall be for ever. NIV 15 Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever. RHE 16 (80-17) And he fed them with the fat of wheat, and filled them with honey out of the rock. NIV 16 But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
