Psalms 2

MSG

NIV

1 Why the big noise, nations? Why the mean plots, peoples?
1 Why do the nations conspireand the peoples plot in vain?
2 Earth-leaders push for position, Demagogues and delegates meet for summit talks, The God-deniers, the Messiah-defiers:
2 The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,
3 "Let's get free of God! Cast loose from Messiah!"
3 “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”
4 Heaven-throned God breaks out laughing. At first he's amused at their presumption;
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then he gets good and angry. Furiously, he shuts them up:
5 He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 "Don't you know there's a King in Zion? A coronation banquet Is spread for him on the holy summit."
6 “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
7 Let me tell you what God said next. He said, "You're my son, And today is your birthday.
7 I will proclaim the LORD’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father.
8 What do you want? Name it: Nations as a present? continents as a prize?
8 Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You can command them all to dance for you, Or throw them out with tomorrow's trash."
9 You will break them with a rod of iron ; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
10 So, rebel-kings, use your heads; Upstart-judges, learn your lesson:
10 Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Worship God in adoring embrace,
11 Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss Messiah! Your very lives are in danger, you know; His anger is about to explode, But if you make a run for God - you won't regret it!
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
