1 <<A Psalm and song at the dedication of the Temple of David.>> I will extol Thee, O LORD, for Thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
1 I will honor you highly, O LORD, because you have pulled me out [of the pit] and have not let my enemies rejoice over me.
2 O LORD my God, I cried unto Thee, and Thou hast healed me.
2 O LORD my God, I cried out to you for help, and you healed me.
3 O LORD, Thou hast brought up my soul from the grave; Thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
3 O LORD, you brought me up from the grave. You called me back to life from among those who had gone into the pit.
4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye His saints, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness.
4 Make music to praise the LORD, you faithful people who belong to him. Remember his holiness by giving thanks.
5 For His anger endureth but a moment, and in His favor is life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
5 His anger lasts only a moment. His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may last for the night, but there is a song of joy in the morning.
6 And in my prosperity I said, "I shall never be moved."
6 When all was well with me, I said, "I will never be shaken."
7 LORD, by Thy favor Thou hast made my mountain to stand strong; when Thou didst hide Thy face, I was troubled.
7 O LORD, by your favor you have made my mountain stand firm. When you hid your face, I was terrified.
8 I cried to Thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication:
8 I will cry out to you, O LORD. I will plead to the Lord for mercy:
9 "What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise Thee? Shall it declare Thy truth?
9 "How will you profit if my blood is shed, if I go into the pit? Will the dust [of my body] give thanks to you? Will it tell about your truth?"
10 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me; LORD, be Thou my helper!"
10 Hear, O LORD, and have pity on me! O LORD, be my helper!
11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing; Thou hast put off my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,
11 You have changed my sobbing into dancing. You have removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy
12 to the end that my glory may sing praise to Thee and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto Thee for ever.
12 so that my soul may praise you with music and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever.
