New International Version NIV
Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible RHE
1 Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
1
(47-1) <A psalm of a canticle, for the sons of Core, on the second day of the week.> (47-2) Great is the Lord, and exceedingly to be praised in the city of our God, in his holy mountain.
2 Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth, like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King.
2
(47-3) With the joy of the whole earth is mount Sion founded, on the sides of the north, the city of the great king.
3 God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress.
3
(47-4) In her houses shall God be known, when he shall protect her.
4 When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together,
4
(47-5) For behold the kings of the earth assembled themselves: they gathered together.
5 they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror.
5
(47-6) So they saw, and they wondered, they were troubled, they were moved:
6 Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor.
6
(47-7) Trembling took hold of them. There were pains as of a woman in labour.
7 You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind.
7
(47-8) With a vehement wind thou shalt break in pieces the ships of Tharsis.
8 As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever.
8
(47-9) As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God hath founded it for ever.
9 Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
9
(47-10) We have received thy mercy, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
10 Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.
10
(47-11) According to thy name, O God, so also is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of justice.
11 Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments.
11
(47-12) Let mount Sion rejoice, and the daughters of Juda be glad; because of thy judgments, O Lord.
12 Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers,
12
(47-13) Surround Sion, and encompass her: tell lye in her towers.
13 consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation.
13
(47-14) Set your hearts on her strength; and distribute her houses, that ye may relate it in another generation.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
14
(47-15) For this is God, our God unto eternity, and for ever and ever: he shall rule us for evermore.
