1 Listen to my words, LORD, consider my lament.
1
<Unto the end, for her that obtaineth the inheritance. A psalm for David.> (5-2) Give ear, O Lord, to my words, understand my cry.
2 Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.
2
(5-3) Hearken to the voice of my prayer, O my King and my God.
3 In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.
3
(5-4) For to thee will I pray: O Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear my voice.
4 For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome.
4
(5-5) In the morning I will stand before thee, and I will see: because thou art not a God that willest iniquity.
5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong;
5
(5-6) Neither shall the wicked dwell near thee: nor shall the unjust abide before thy eyes.
6 you destroy those who tell lies. The bloodthirsty and deceitful you, LORD, detest.
6
(5-7) Thou hatest all the workers of iniquity: thou wilt destroy all that speak a lie. The bloody and the deceitful man the Lord will abhor.
7 But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down toward your holy temple.
7
(5-8) But as for me in the multitude of thy mercy, I will come into thy house; I will worship towards thy holy temple, in thy fear.
8 Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies— make your way straight before me.
8
(5-9) Conduct me, O Lord, in thy justice: because of my enemies, direct my way in thy sight.
9 Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies.
9
(5-10) For there is no truth in their mouth: their heart is vain.
10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you.
10
(5-11) Their throat is an open sepulchre: they dealt deceitfully with their tongues: judge them, O God. Let them fall from their devices: according to the multitude of their wickednesses cast them out: for they have provoked thee, O Lord.
11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
11
(5-12) But let all them be glad that hope in thee: they shall rejoice for ever, and thou shalt dwell in them. And all they that love thy name shall glory in thee.
12 Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
12
(5-13) For thou wilt bless the just. O Lord, thou hast crowned us, as with a shield of thy good will.
