Hebrew Names Version HNV
The Message Bible MSG
1 To the angel of the assembly in Ephesus write: "He who holds the seven stars in his right hand, he who walks in the midst of the seven golden menorot says these things:
1
Write this to Ephesus, to the Angel of the church. The One with Seven Stars in his right-fist grip, striding through the golden seven-lights' circle, speaks:
2 "I know your works, and your toil and perseverance, and that you can't tolerate evil men, and have tested those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and found them false.
2
"I see what you've done, your hard, hard work, your refusal to quit. I know you can't stomach evil, that you weed out apostolic pretenders.
3 You have perseverance and have endured for my name's sake, and have not grown weary.
3
I know your persistence, your courage in my cause, that you never wear out.
4 But I have this against you, that you left your first love.
4
"But you walked away from your first love - why? What's going on with you, anyway?
5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I am coming to you, and will move your menorah out of its place, unless you repent.
5
Do you have any idea how far you've fallen? A Lucifer fall! "Turn back! Recover your dear early love. No time to waste, for I'm well on my way to removing your light from the golden circle.
6 But this you have, that you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
6
"You do have this to your credit: You hate the Nicolaitan business. I hate it, too.
7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him who overcomes I will give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of my God.
7
"Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. I'm about to call each conqueror to dinner. I'm spreading a banquet of Tree-of-Life fruit, a supper plucked from God's orchard."
8 "To the angel of the assembly in Smyrna write: "The first and the last, who was dead, and has come to life says these things:
8
Write this to Smyrna, to the Angel of the church. The Beginning and Ending, the First and Final One, the Once Dead and Then Come Alive, speaks:
9 "I know your oppression, and your poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy of those who say they are Yehudim, and they are not, but are a synagogue of Hasatan.
9
"I can see your pain and poverty - constant pain, dire poverty - but I also see your wealth. And I hear the lie in the claims of those who pretend to be good Jews, who in fact belong to Satan's crowd.
10 Don't be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested; and you will have oppression for ten days. Be faithful to death, and I will give you the crown of life.
10
"Fear nothing in the things you're about to suffer - but stay on guard! Fear nothing! The Devil is about to throw you in jail for a time of testing - ten days. It won't last forever. "Don't quit, even if it costs you your life. Stay there believing. I have a Life-Crown sized and ready for you.
11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. He who overcomes won't be hurt by the second death.
11
"Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. Christ-conquerors are safe from Devil-death."
12 "To the angel of the assembly in Pergamum write: "He who has the sharp two-edged sword says these things:
12
Write this to Pergamum, to the Angel of the church. The One with the sharp-biting sword draws from the sheath of his mouth - out come the sword words:
13 "I know your works and where you dwell, where Hasatan's throne is. You hold firmly to my name, and didn't deny my faith, even in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Hasatan dwells.
13
"I see where you live, right under the shadow of Satan's throne. But you continue boldly in my Name; you never once denied my Name, even when the pressure was worst, when they martyred Antipas, my witness who stayed faithful to me on Satan's turf.
14 But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Bil`am, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of Yisra'el, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.
14
"But why do you indulge that Balaam crowd? Don't you remember that Balaam was an enemy agent, seducing Balak and sabotaging Israel's holy pilgrimage by throwing unholy parties?
15 So you also have some who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans in the same way.
15
And why do you put up with the Nicolaitans, who do the same thing?
16 Repent therefore, or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of my mouth.
16
"Enough! Don't give in to them; I'll be with you soon. I'm fed up and about to cut them to pieces with my sword-sharp words.
17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him who overcomes, to him will I give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows but he who receives it.
17
"Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. I'll give the sacred manna to every conqueror; I'll also give a clear, smooth stone inscribed with your new name, your secret new name."
18 "To the angel of the assembly in Thyatira write: "The Son of God, who has his eyes like a flame of fire, and his feet are like burnished brass, says these things:
18
Write this to Thyatira, to the Angel of the church. God's Son, eyes pouring fire-blaze, standing on feet of furnace-fired bronze, says this:
19 I know your works, your love, faith, service, patient endurance, and that your last works are more than the first.
19
"I see everything you're doing for me. Impressive! The love and the faith, the service and persistence. Yes, very impressive! You get better at it every day.
20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate your woman, Izevel, who calls herself a prophetess. She teaches and seduces my servants to commit sexual immorality, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.
20
"But why do you let that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet mislead my dear servants into Cross-denying, self-indulging religion?
21 I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality.
21
I gave her a chance to change her ways, but she has no intention of giving up a career in the god-business.
22 Behold, I will throw her into a bed, and those who commit adultery with her into great oppression, unless they repent of her works.
22
I'm about to lay her low, along with her partners, as they play their sex-and-religion games.
23 I will kill her children with Death, and all the assemblies will know that I am he who searches the minds and hearts. I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.
23
The bastard offspring of their idol-whoring I'll kill. Then every church will know that appearances don't impress me. I x-ray every motive and make sure you get what's coming to you.
24 But to you I say, to the rest who are in Thyatira, as many as don't have this teaching, who don't know what some call 'the deep things of Hasatan,' to you I say, I don't lay on you any other burden.
24
"The rest of you Thyatirans, who have nothing to do with this outrage, who scorn this playing around with the Devil that gets paraded as profundity, be assured I'll not make life any harder for you than it already is.
25 Nevertheless that which you have, hold firmly until I come.
25
Hold on to the truth you have until I get there.
26 He who overcomes, and he who keeps my works to the end, to him will I give authority over the nations.
26
"Here's the reward I have for every conqueror, everyone who keeps at it, refusing to give up: You'll rule the nations,
27 He will rule them with a rod of iron, shattering them like clay pots; as I also have received of my Father:
27
your Shepherd-King rule as firm as an iron staff, their resistance fragile as clay pots. This was the gift my Father gave me; I pass it along to you -
28 and I will give him the morning star.
28
and with it, the Morning Star!
29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.
29
"Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches."
