The Complete Jewish Bible CJB
The Bible in Basic English BBE
1 From: Sha'ul, a slave of the Messiah Yeshua, an emissary because I was called and set apart for the Good News of God.
1
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, an Apostle by the selection of God, given authority as a preacher of the good news,
2 God promised this Good News in advance through his prophets in the Tanakh.
2
Of which God had given word before by his prophets in the holy Writings,
3 It concerns his Son - he is descended from David physically;
3
About his Son who, in the flesh, came from the family of David,
4 he was powerfully demonstrated to be Son of God spiritually, set apart by his having been resurrected from the dead; he is Yeshua the Messiah, our Lord.
4
But was marked out as Son of God in power by the Holy Spirit through the coming to life again of the dead; Jesus Christ our Lord,
5 Through him we received grace and were given the work of being an emissary on his behalf promoting trust-grounded obedience among all the Gentiles,
5
Through whom grace has been given to us, sending us out to make disciples to the faith among all nations, for his name:
6 including you, who have been called by Yeshua the Messiah.
6
Among whom you in the same way have been marked out to be disciples of Jesus Christ:
7 To: All those in Rome whom God loves, who have been called, who have been set apart for him: Grace to you and shalom from God our Father and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah.
7
To all those who are in Rome, loved by God, marked out as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8 First, I thank my God through Yeshua the Messiah for all of you, because the report of your trust is spreading throughout the whole world.
8
First of all, I give praise to my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because news of your faith has gone into all the world.
9 For God, whom I serve in my spirit by spreading the Good News about his Son, is my witness that I regularly remember you
9
For God is my witness, whose servant I am in spirit in the good news of his Son, that you are at all times in my memory and in my prayers,
10 in my prayers; and I always pray that somehow, now or in the future, I might, by God's will, succeed in coming to visit you.
10
And that I am ever making prayers that God will give me a good journey to you.
11 For I long to see you, so that I might share with you some spiritual gift that can make you stronger -
11
For I have a strong desire to see you, and to give you some grace of the spirit, so that you may be made strong;
12 or, to put it another way, so that by my being with you, we might, through the faith we share, encourage one another.
12
That is to say, that all of us may be comforted together by the faith which is in you and in me.
13 Brothers, I want you to know that although I have been prevented from visiting you until now, I have often planned to do so, in order that I might have some fruit among you, just as I have among the other Gentiles.
13
You may be certain, my brothers, that it has frequently been in my mind to come to you (but till now I was kept from it), so that I might have some fruit from you in the same way as I have had it from the other nations.
14 I owe a debt to both civilized Greeks and uncivilized people, to both the educated and the ignorant;
14
I have a debt to Greeks and to the nations outside; to the wise and to those who have no learning.
15 therefore I am eager to proclaim the Good News also to you who live in Rome.
15
For which reason I have the desire, as far as I am able, to give the knowledge of the good news to you who are in Rome.
16 For I am not ashamed of the Good News, since it is God's powerful means of bringing salvation to everyone who keeps on trusting, to the Jew especially, but equally to the Gentile.
16
For I have no feeling of shame about the good news, because it is the power of God giving salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first, and then to the Greek.
17 For in it is revealed how God makes people righteous in his sight; and from beginning to end it is through trust - as the Tanakh puts it, "But the person who is righteous will live his life by trust."
17
For in it there is the revelation of the righteousness of God from faith to faith: as it is said in the holy Writings, The man who does righteousness will be living by his faith.
18 What is revealed is God's anger from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people who in their wickedness keep suppressing the truth;
18
For there is a revelation of the wrath of God from heaven against all the wrongdoing and evil thoughts of men who keep down what is true by wrongdoing;
19 because what is known about God is plain to them, since God has made it plain to them.
19
Because the knowledge of God may be seen in them, God having made it clear to them.
20 For ever since the creation of the universe his invisible qualities - both his eternal power and his divine nature - have been clearly seen, because they can be understood from what he has made. Therefore, they have no excuse;
20
For from the first making of the world, those things of God which the eye is unable to see, that is, his eternal power and existence, are fully made clear, he having given the knowledge of them through the things which he has made, so that men have no reason for wrongdoing:
21 because, although they know who God is, they do not glorify him as God or thank him. On the contrary, they have become futile in their thinking; and their undiscerning hearts have become darkened.
21
Because, having the knowledge of God, they did not give glory to God as God, and did not give praise, but their minds were full of foolish things, and their hearts, being without sense, were made dark.
22 Claiming to be wise, they have become fools!
22
Seeming to be wise, they were in fact foolish,
23 In fact, they have exchanged the glory of the immortal God for mere images, like a mortal human being, or like birds, animals or reptiles!
23
And by them the glory of the eternal God was changed and made into the image of man who is not eternal, and of birds and beasts and things which go on the earth.
24 This is why God has given them up to the vileness of their hearts' lusts, to the shameful misuse of each other's bodies.
24
For this reason God gave them up to the evil desires of their hearts, working shame in their bodies with one another:
25 They have exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, by worshipping and serving created things, rather than the Creator - praised be he for ever. Amen.
25
Because by them the true word of God was changed into that which is false, and they gave worship and honour to the thing which is made, and not to him who made it, to whom be blessing for ever. So be it.
26 This is why God has given them up to degrading passions; so that their women exchange natural sexual relations for unnatural;
26
For this reason God gave them up to evil passions, and their women were changing the natural use into one which is unnatural:
27 and likewise the men, giving up natural relations with the opposite sex, burn with passion for one another, men committing shameful acts with other men and receiving in their own persons the penalty appropriate to their perversion.
27
And in the same way the men gave up the natural use of the woman and were burning in their desire for one another, men doing shame with men, and getting in their bodies the right reward of their evil-doing.
28 In other words, since they have not considered God worth knowing, God has given them up to worthless ways of thinking; so that they do improper things.
28
And because they had not the mind to keep God in their knowledge, God gave them up to an evil mind, to do those things which are not right;
29 They are filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and vice; stuffed with jealousy, murder, quarrelling, dishonesty and ill-will; they are gossips,
29
Being full of all wrongdoing, evil, desire for the goods of others, hate, envy, putting to death, fighting, deceit, cruel ways, evil talk, and false statements about others;
30 slanderers, haters of God; they are insolent, arrogant and boastful; they plan evil schemes; they disobey their parents;
30
Hated by God, full of pride, without respect, full of loud talk, given to evil inventions, not honouring father or mother,
31 they are brainless, faithless, heartless and ruthless.
31
Without knowledge, not true to their undertakings, unkind, having no mercy:
32 They know well enough God's righteous decree that people who do such things deserve to die; yet not only do they keep doing them, but they applaud others who do the same.
32
Who, though they have knowledge of the law of God, that the fate of those who do these things is death, not only go on doing these things themselves, but give approval to those who do them.
