Romans 5

CEB 1 Therefore, since we have been made righteous through his faithfulness combined with our faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, CEB 2 We have access by faith into this grace in which we stand through him, and we boast in the hope of God's glory. NIV 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. CEB 3 But not only that! We even take pride in our problems, because we know that trouble produces endurance, NIV 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; CEB 4 endurance produces character, and character produces hope. NIV 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. CEB 5 This hope doesn't put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. NIV 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. CEB 6 While we were still weak, at the right moment, Christ died for ungodly people. NIV 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. CEB 7 It isn't often that someone will die for a righteous person, though maybe someone might dare to die for a good person. NIV 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. CEB 8 But God shows his love for us, because while we were still sinners Christ died for us. NIV 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. CEB 9 So, now that we have been made righteous by his blood, we can be even more certain that we will be saved from God's wrath through him. NIV 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! CEB 10 If we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son while we were still enemies, now that we have been reconciled, how much more certain is it that we will be saved by his life? NIV 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! CEB 11 And not only that: we even take pride in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, the one through whom we now have a restored relationship with God. NIV 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. CEB 12 So, in the same way that sin entered the world through one person, and death came through sin, so death spread to all human beings with the result that all sinned. NIV 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned— CEB 13 Although sin was in the world, since there was no Law, it wasn't taken into account until the Law came. NIV 13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. CEB 14 But death ruled from Adam until Moses, even over those who didn't sin in the same way Adam did—Adam was a type of the one who was coming. NIV 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come. CEB 15 But the free gift of Christ isn't like Adam's failure. If many people died through what one person did wrong, God's grace is multiplied even more for many people with the gift—of the one person Jesus Christ—that comes through grace. NIV 15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! CEB 16 The gift isn't like the consequences of one person's sin. The judgment that came from one person's sin led to punishment, but the free gift that came out of many failures led to the verdict of acquittal. NIV 16 Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. CEB 17 If death ruled because of one person's failure, those who receive the multiplied grace and the gift of righteousness will even more certainly rule in life through the one person Jesus Christ. NIV 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! CEB 18 So now the righteous requirements necessary for life are met for everyone through the righteous act of one person, just as judgment fell on everyone through the failure of one person. NIV 18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. CEB 19 Many people were made righteous through the obedience of one person, just as many people were made sinners through the disobedience of one person. NIV 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. CEB 20 The Law stepped in to amplify the failure, but where sin increased, grace multiplied even more. NIV 20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, CEB 21 The result is that grace will rule through God's righteousness, leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord, just as sin ruled in death. NIV 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
