1 Samuel 22:13-23

13 —¿Por qué han conspirado contra mí, tú y ese hijo de Isaí? —le preguntó Saúl—. ¿Por qué le diste alimento y una espada? ¿Por qué consultaste a Dios por él? ¿Por qué lo instigaste a matarme, como está tratando de hacer hoy mismo?

14 —Pero señor —respondió Ahimelec—, ¿hay alguien entre todos sus siervos que sea tan fiel como su yerno David? ¡Él es el capitán de su escolta y un miembro altamente honrado de su casa!

15 Por cierto, ¡esta no fue la primera vez que consulté a Dios por él! Que el rey no me acuse a mí y a mi familia de este asunto, porque yo no sabía nada de un complot en contra de usted.

16 —¡Ahimelec, ten por seguro que morirás junto con toda tu familia! —gritó el rey.

17 Y le ordenó a su escolta:
—¡Maten a estos sacerdotes del Señor
, porque son aliados de David y conspiradores con él! ¡Ellos sabían que él huía de mí, pero no me lo dijeron!
Pero los hombres de Saúl se negaron a matar a los sacerdotes del Señor
.

18 Entonces Saúl le dijo a Doeg:
—Hazlo tú.
Así que ese día Doeg el edomita los atacó y los mató: ochenta y cinco sacerdotes en total que aún llevaban puestas sus vestiduras sacerdotales.

19 Después se dirigió a Nob, la ciudad de los sacerdotes, y mató a las familias de los sacerdotes —hombres y mujeres, niños y recién nacidos— y a todo el ganado, burros, ovejas y cabras.

20 Sólo Abiatar, uno de los hijos de Ahimelec, escapó y huyó a donde estaba David.

21 Cuando le dijo que Saúl había matado a los sacerdotes del Señor
,

22 David exclamó:
—¡Lo sabía! Cuando vi a Doeg el edomita allí ese día, estaba seguro de que se lo contaría a Saúl. Ahora soy responsable de la muerte de toda la familia de tu padre.

23 Quédate aquí conmigo, no tengas miedo; te protegeré con mi propia vida, porque la misma persona quiere matarnos a los dos.

INTRODUCTION TO FIRST SAMUEL 22

This chapter gives us an account of the flight of David from place to place, from Gath to the cave of Adullam, where his relations came to him; from thence to Mizpeh in Moab, where he got leave of the king of Moab for his father and mother to dwell there; and from thence, by the advice of Gad the prophet, departed into the land of Judah, and came to the forest of Hareth, 1Sa 21:1-5; and of the complaint of Saul to his servants of their unfaithfulness to him, and indolence and unconcern at the behaviour of Jonathan and David to him, 1Sa 22:6-8; when Doeg the Edomite informed him of David being seen by him at Nob, and of his receiving food and a sword from Ahimelech the priest, who inquired of the Lord for him, 1Sa 22:9,10; upon which Saul sent for Ahimelech and all the priests at Nob, and charged them with a conspiracy against him; and notwithstanding the defence the priest made, Saul ordered him and the rest of the priests to be slain by his guards; which they refusing, Doeg became the executioner of them, and of all the inhabitants of the city of Nob, and the cattle in it, 1Sa 22:11-19; only Abiathar a son of Ahimelech escaped and fled to David with the sorrowful news; which greatly affected David, looking upon himself to be the occasion of this sad disaster, and he took Abiathar under his protection, and promised him safety, 1Sa 22:20-23.
