2 Samuel 19:30-40

30 —Désela toda a él —dijo Mefiboset—. ¡Estoy satisfecho con que haya vuelto a salvo, mi señor el rey!

31 Bondad de David con Barzilai
Barzilai de Galaad había descendido de Rogelim para escoltar al rey a cruzar el Jordán.

32 Él era muy anciano, tenía unos ochenta años, y era muy rico. Él fue quien proveyó el alimento para el rey durante el tiempo que pasó en Mahanaim.

33 —Cruza el río conmigo y quédate a vivir en Jerusalén —le dijo el rey a Barzilai—. Y allí me haré cargo de ti.

34 —No —le respondió—, soy demasiado viejo para ir con el rey a Jerusalén.

35 Ahora tengo ochenta años de edad, y ya no puedo disfrutar de nada. La comida y el vino ya no tienen sabor, tampoco puedo oír las voces de los cantantes. Sería nada más una carga para mi señor el rey.

36 ¡Tan solo cruzar el río Jordán con el rey es todo el honor que necesito!

37 Después déjeme regresar para que muera en mi ciudad, donde están enterrados mi padre y mi madre. Pero aquí está su siervo, mi hijo Quimam; permítale que él vaya con mi señor el rey y que reciba lo que usted quiera darle.

38 —Muy bien —acordó el rey—. Quimam irá conmigo, y lo ayudaré en cualquier forma que tú quieras; haré por ti cualquier cosa que desees.

39 Luego toda la gente cruzó el Jordán junto con el rey. Después que David lo hubo bendecido y besado, Barzilai regresó a su propia casa.

40 El rey cruzó el Jordán hacia Gilgal, y llevó a Quimam con él. Todas las tropas de Judá y la mitad de las de Israel escoltaron al rey en su camino.

David indulging to too much grief for the death of his son, is rebuked by Joab, and threatened with a revolt of the people from him, if he did not change his conduct, which be accordingly did, 2Sa 19:1-8; upon which the men of Israel were the first that moved for the bringing him back to Jerusalem, and the men of Judah were solicited to join with them in it, which was effected, 2Sa 19:9-15; and at Jordan, Shimei, that had cursed him, met him, and asked his pardon, and was forgiven, 2Sa 19:16-23; and when come to Jerusalem, Mephibosheth excused so well his not going out with him, that he had half his land restored to him, which had been given to his servant, 2Sa 19:24-30; and Barzillai, who had very liberally supplied the king, was allowed to return to his own city, and Chimham his son was taken to court, 2Sa 19:31-40; and a contention arose between the men of Israel and of Judah about the restoration of the king, which issued in an insurrection, as the next chapter shows, 2Sa 19:41-43.
