Psaume 49:1-9

1 Au chef des chantres. Des fils de Koré. Psaume. Ecoutez ceci, vous tous, peuples, Prêtez l'oreille, vous tous, habitants du monde,

2 Petits et grands, Riches et pauvres!

3 Ma bouche va faire entendre des paroles sages, Et mon coeur a des pensées pleines de sens.

4 Je prête l'oreille aux sentences qui me sont inspirées, J'ouvre mon chant au son de la harpe.

5 Pourquoi craindrais-je aux jours du malheur, Lorsque l'iniquité de mes adversaires m'enveloppe?

6 Ils ont confiance en leurs biens, Et se glorifient de leur grande richesse.

7 Ils ne peuvent se racheter l'un l'autre, Ni donner à Dieu le prix du rachat.

8 Le rachat de leur âme est cher, Et n'aura jamais lieu;

9 Ils ne vivront pas toujours, Ils n'éviteront pas la vue de la fosse.

Psaume 49:1-9 Meaning and Commentary

To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Aben Ezra says this psalm is a very excellent one, since in it is explained the Light of the world to come, and of the rational and immortal soul; and Kimchi is of opinion that it respects both this world and that which is to come: and indeed it treats of the vanity of trusting in riches: of the insufficiency of them for the redemption of the soul; of the short continuance of worldly honour and substance; of the certainty of death, and of the resurrection of the dead. And the design of it is to expose the folly of trusting in uncertain riches, and to comfort the people of God under the want of them.
