This chapter contains a prayer of Daniel, and the answer to it. The time, occasion, and manner of his prayer, or circumstances of it, are observed, Da 9:1-3, the parts of it, an address unto God, under various suitable epithets and characters, Da 9:4 confession of sin, of his own, of the inhabitants of the land, kings, princes, and people, which are largely dwelt upon and exaggerated, Da 9:5-15 and petitions for mercy, Da 9:16-19, then the answer follows; the time when it was ordered and given, and the person by whom it was sent, are expressed, Da 9:20-23 who delivered to him the vision of the seventy weeks to be considered by him; in which both the work of the Messiah, and the time of his coming, are clearly pointed out, Da 9:24-27.
Our greatest need as a nation is a national spiritual revival. Our nation needs to be called to repentance for its great sins. Yet, we try to deny we have any responsibility to God, it seems. Daniel wasn't like that. He prayed for the nation and acknowledged the nation's sins.
The hour is desperate. The saints of God must wake up. Only serious, believing, repenting prayer can hold back the floodtides of judgment and release the cleansing power of God upon our personal lives and our nation. In this urgent message, Adrian Rogers calls the church to extraordinary prayer.
Prayer for a nation must begin with confession of sin. Today, we as a nation are not acknowledging our great sins as a people. That's our problem. God sends his warning judgments against us in different ways and we don't recognize them as calling us to repent of our sins. Are we not dealing falsely with our God when we refuse to acknowledge Him and confess and repent of our naional sins. Why should we expect Him to bless America under such terms? If we rebel against our God, He will bfring judgment upon us and the world will know that this nation was judged because of its great disobedience and rebellion against God.
Today, we as a nation are not acknowledging our great sins as a people. That's our problem. God sends his warning judgments against us in different ways and we don't recognize them as calling us to repent of our sins. Our forefathers recognized their dependence upon God and when they saw his displeasure with them, they confessed their sins and repented. We can learn from them!
