Luke 2:1-14

Listen to Luke 2:1-14

The Birth of Jesus

1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
3 And everyone went to their own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Tough Time Lately? You Should Have Seen the First Christmas! Part 2
James Kaddis

Has this been a tough Christmas for you and your family?  Maybe you’re out of work and you really couldn’t afford to give to your loved ones like you normally do?  Or perhaps you’ve experienced the death of a loved one, and this Christmas is a reminder that they’re no longer with you.   We hope and pray today’s message will minister to you.  As you’ll hear, the very first Christmas was very hard, painful and really nothing easy about it.

Peace on Earth, Part 2
Peace on Earth, Part 2
Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Charles Price We love the Christmas story. Every year we revisit it, but whatever happened to the peace on earth part? Was it just an idle, sentimental hope, a dream, wishful thinking, escapism, unrealistic? What is this peace? Jesus spoke about this later in his own life and ministry in John 14:27, speaking to His disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Let not your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”   Notice the contrast there: The peace the world gives is external, but the peace Jesus gives is internal. The diagnosis of the Bible is that the biggest problem we have in our world today is not out there. It's in the human heart.

Why Does Christmas Matter? - Part 2
Why Does Christmas Matter? - Part 2
Dr. Jeff Schreve

The Christmas season is filled with secular excess and materialism. The spiritual aspects have been pushed aside. And while giving gifts can be meaningful, if Jesus Christ is forgotten, we have missed the point of this extremely important event … with eternal implications. If your love for the Savior doesn’t grow deeper during this time of year, this eye-opening message from Pastor Jeff Schreve called WHY DOES CHRISTMAS MATTER?, explains why it should.
