There is a place in India where their legends agree with the Bible that mankind
was made from dust. But they think that the upper class (or caste) was made
from the fertile soil and the lower class was made from ordinary clay. Of
course, if you are going to create pottery, you want ordinary clay, not rich
loam.
The Bible, unlike human legends, ascribes to us all the same humble origin, clay. Yet the Bible also ascribes to us all the same exalted origin. God Himself breathed into the nostrils of a man made from clay. Only then was he alive.
Once in a souvenir shop there was displayed in the window a small figurine. Under it was this verse:
Earth I am
It is most true.
Despise me not
For so are you.
