People in South Carolina call Charleston "The Holy City." That doesn't mean there is no crime there, though Charleston has much less crime than many similar cities. It does not mean everyone there is honest, though most people are. The Bible belt morality is alive and well in Charleston. It refers to the fact that there are 22 historic churches in Charleston. The oldest congregation was established in 1687! Long-time church goers, however, will think of a song often sung in many churches, "The Holy City." The song echoes Revelation 21:2 and is about the New Jerusalem that shall not pass away. In that holy city, there will be no crime, no sin. It will be truly holy.
