His name was Bobby Hanson, but his radio followers knew him as Ludlow Porch. He picked his stage name because he thought Ludlow sounded Old South, and a porch was a good place to sit and talk. Ludlow may not be well known outside the Deep South, but in Georgia and bordering states, he was known as a gentleman and southern humorist. He was the stepbrother of southern author Lewis Grizzard. Ludlow could be funny without being cruel. At his worst, he engaged in gentle teasing. He was known for his love of jokes, trivia, nostalgia and southern cooking. Ludlow died in early 2011, but his listeners still recall how he signed off every broadcast. He would say, "Whatever else you do today, you find somebody to be nice to."
