Last December Cynthia Crossen, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal interviewed a number of Christmas shoppers. One said that she bought two scarves, one to give away and one to keep. She couldn't decide which color to give so she kept them both. One shopper said "it's one for me one for them, one for me, one for them." And one said she had up to that point bought 13 Christmas presents; two to give away and eleven for herself! It's strange that the season of giving should have become the season of getting and that a time when we should think of others as many think of themselves.
