The biggest gold nugget ever found was uncovered in Australia. It was one and
one half meters long, weighed 300 kilograms and yielded 93 kilograms of pure
gold. That one lump of gold would be worth one million Australian dollars
today. Historically, South America was the world's biggest gold producing
region, followed by Russia in the 1820's and then by California, Australia and
Canada. The largest gold field today is in South Africa and it was found by a
man who was not looking for gold at all. He was looking for diamonds.
With modern mechanized mining today companies go through 200 tons of ore and waste to gain one ounce of gold! Psalm 19 says that there is something more precious than gold, and it is available to all of us. The Word that God has revealed is, says David, "more to be desired... than gold, even much fine gold" (Ps. 19:10).
