Psalms 81:2

Take a psalm
Or "lift one up" F25; hold up the book, and read and sing it; or rather, lift up the voice in singing a psalm:

and bring hither the timbrel;
or "give one" F26, put the hand to one:

the pleasant harp with the psaltery;
make use of all these musical instruments in singing, and so make an agreeable melody: these were used in the times of the Old Testament, and were typical of the spiritual joy and melody in the heart, expressed by vocal singing, under the New Testament; see ( Revelation 5:8 ) ( Revelation 14:2 Revelation 14:3 ) ( 15:2 ) .

Psalm 81:2 In-Context

1 (80-1) <Unto the end, for the winepresses, a psalm for Asaph himself.> (80-2) Rejoice to God our helper: sing aloud to the God of Jacob.
2 (80-3) Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel: the pleasant psaltery with the harp.
3 (80-4) Blow up the trumpet on the new moon, on the noted day of your solemnity.
4 (80-5) For it is a commandment in Israel, and a judgment to the God of Jacob.
5 (80-6) He ordained it for a testimony in Joseph, when he came out of the land of Egypt: he heard a tongue which he knew not.
