15 Così il re non diede ascolto al popolo; perché questa cosa era diretta dall’Eterno, affinché si adempisse la parola da lui detta per mezzo di Ahija di Scilo a Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat.

1 Kings 12:15

Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people
To lessen their taxes, and ease them of their burdens, as they desired:

for the cause was from the Lord;
it was according to his will and appointment; the defection of the people was willed by the Lord, and various things in Providence turned up to alienate their minds from Rehoboam, and dispose them to a revolt from him in favour of Jeroboam; and the Lord suffered the counsellors of Rehoboam to give him the advice they did, and gave him up to the folly of his own heart to take it:

that he might perform his saying, which the Lord spake to Ahijah
the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat;

13 E il re rispose aspramente, abbandonando il consiglio che i vecchi gli aveano dato;

14 e parlò al popolo secondo il consiglio dei giovani, dicendo: "Mio padre ha reso pesante il vostro giogo, ma io lo renderò più pesante ancora; mio padre vi ha castigati con la frusta, e io vi castigherò coi flagelli a punte".

15 Così il re non diede ascolto al popolo; perché questa cosa era diretta dall’Eterno, affinché si adempisse la parola da lui detta per mezzo di Ahija di Scilo a Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat.

16 E quando tutto il popolo d’Israele vide che il re non gli dava ascolto, rispose al re, dicendo: "Che abbiam noi da fare con Davide? Noi non abbiam nulla di comune col figliuolo d’Isai! Alle tue tende, o Israele! Provvedi ora tu alla tua casa, o Davide!" E Israele se ne andò alle sue tende.

17 Ma sui figliuoli d’Israele che abitavano nelle città di Giuda, regnò Roboamo.
